Mixed reactions to news about a possible return as national team coach
1 min readDe Telegraaf reported Monday morning that Louis van Gaal would be open to speaking with the KNVB about a return as head coach of the Netherlands national team. Van Gaal, who in 2012 was still a candidate to become coach of PSV, would thereby become head coach of Oranje for the fourth time.
Van Gaal previously served as national team coach in the period 2000-2001, 2012-2014, and 2021-2022. Since Ronald Koeman stepped down on 30 June of this year, the KNVB has been without a national team coach and several top candidates have already indicated that they are not open to it.
Because of this, the KNVB would again have come up against the 74-year-old Amsterdammer. A few years ago, Van Gaal was still dealing with health problems, but now feels fitter than ever.
For his second term as coach of the Netherlands, Van Gaal was considered a candidate to become coach of PSV in the 2012/2013 season when Fred Rutten, in the winter of 2011, indicated that he would leave at the end of the season. This news about LVG met with resistance among most PSV fans, and Mark van Bommel also considered at the time not to allow his return to PSV to go ahead if Van Gaal were to become coach at PSV.

idk, amsterdammer of niet, de vraag blijft of we nog dezelfde lv g regeling krijgen. gezondheidstechnisch klinkt het positief, maar zijn aanpak kan ook snel botten met de voetballers die psv wil ontwikkelen. btw, ze zeggen dat hij al eerder kandidaat was, maar psv moet echt niet opnieuw in dezelfde discussie belanden 💀
"open zou staan om met de KNVB in gesprek te gaan" en iedereen hier doet alsof psv weer aan het wachten is. van gaal was toen 2012/2013 kandidaat en ja, mark van bommel dacht erover om zijn terugkeer te blokkeren. maar als hij nu zelfs fitter is dan toen, is dat toch vooral goed nieuws voor oranje, niet per se voor onze clubplanning.
Ik snap de frustratie van PSV-fans tbh. Van Gaal bij Oranje is ok, maar de schaduw van 2012/13 hangt nog steeds, zelfs met die timing rond Rutten. Als Mark van Bommel toen al twijfelde, dan zegt dat genoeg... 👀
Bruh, alsof Oranje weer niet kan zonder Louis. Zolang hij geen invloed krijgt op PSV-transferpolitiek is het prima, maar die 2012 link blijft wel triggeren bij PSV-fans.
"open zou staan om met de KNVB in gesprek te gaan"... tja, dat is nog niet eens een keuze hè. LVG is goated voor toernooivoetbal, maar tegen de tijd dat de spelers daar zijn op ingespeeld, is er soms al gedoe in de selectie.
Vierde keer bondscoach... dat is niet zomaar. Eens kijken of de KNVB dan echt vooruit wil, of gewoon naar bewezen ervaring grijpt. En ja, zijn fitness verhaal klinkt lekker, maar we weten allemaal hoe het ging jaren geleden.
Vierde keer bondscoach... lol. tbh ik vind het logisch dat de knvb bij hem uitkomt als niemand wil, maar voor het Nederlandse voetbal is het ook wel een beetje "same movie, new season".
If LVG is really back for Oranje, ik ben wel benieuwd wat dat betekent voor PSV, want in 2012/13 zat er ook al zo'n PSV-scenario. Tactisch is hij top, maar ik snap dat veel mensen toen weerstand voelden.
ik zie het alweer gebeuren, van gaal terug bij oranje maar psv fans die zich toen verzetten krijgen nu flashbacks. eerlijk, ik snap de weerstand wel, want zijn stijl is vaak net te controlerend voor psv. toch lijkt het me sportief slim als de knvb nu eindelijk weer iets stabiels kiest.
