Mark van Bommel proudly after the announcement of the Oranje selection

1 min read

Fourteen years after Mark van Bommel stepped down as an international for the Netherlands national team, his son Ruben van Bommel is set to make his debut for Oranje for the first time. National team coach Xavi Hernandez has made room in his squad for the PSV winger, who leaves a strong impression in the first weeks of the season after the wide attacker suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury last year that kept him sidelined for the rest of the season.

That also did not escape Father Mark. Mark is now the national team coach of Belgium and has meanwhile also announced his first squad as head coach of the Red Devils, in which there is still room for players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.

In addition, the PSV icon responds at the press conference as well to the call for his son Ruben. ''I'm very proud of that. I played for the Netherlands national team myself,'' begins the born Limburger.

''He has had a very difficult year behind him with a cruciate ligament injury. If you’re back that way, that’s pretty impressive'', continues the 79-time international from the Netherlands.

In addition, Mark still wants to add something about the situation with Aaron Bouwman during Ajax - PSV (1-3) on 5 September of last month. ''Football is a sport where you talk a lot about it. When you see the football, I think you have to judge the moments the way they are on the pitch. And you shouldn't bring in other things. That's the only thing I want to say about it. He's developing well. After that match, some things did arise. He deserved a red card for that foul against Ajax, but you shouldn't bring up any other things'', said the PSV icon.
