Large-scale renovation of Philips Stadium is getting closer again; the last international match in the current Philips Stadium seems imminent.
1 min readEarlier this year, PSV presented the plans to expand the Philips Stadion. In 2030, the capacity should be at least 52,000 spectators.
The costs should moreover be between 350 and 400 million euros. The intention is that PSV will still receive a 'go' or 'no go' before the end of this calendar year, and if it's a 'go', the first renovations will begin at the end of this football season.
During the renovation, only official matches involving PSV will take place in the stadium. That means, among other things, that there will be no concerts and no international matches featuring the Netherlands national team at the Philips Stadium once the renovation gets underway.
With that news, the Eindhovens Dagblad brings it to light. "That is stated in the draft protocol that the municipality of Eindhoven has drawn up for the use of the stadium during the renovation. In a response, PSV confirms that for matters other than official first-team matches, there will be no space or time," the newspaper outlines.

Next Sunday Oranje will play against Serbia in Eindhoven in the context of the Nations League. The chance is high that this will be the last match of the Netherlands national team so far at the Philips Stadium before the renovations begin.
Not much is yet known about playing practice matches during the build-up and the Light City derby against local rivals FC Eindhoven, says a spokesperson for PSV. ''As for how and whether things will be organized differently then, there is nothing to say yet. No decisions have been made about that'', the spokesperson is quoted as saying by the ED.
Season ticket holders also have to fear sometimes having to miss a home match. ''From the protocol that the municipality drew up, it also becomes clear that season ticket holders need to take into account that they may be forced to miss a PSV match once. A scenario has been worked out in which, for reasons of safety, the municipality can decide a day in advance that stand sections must remain empty due to work,'' the regional newspaper said.
