Journalist points at the PSV goal: 'Just blow the whistle for that'
1 min readJournalist Mike Verweij from De Telegraaf made critical remarks in the podcast Kick-off about the standard of Dutch referees in the first matchday of the Eredivisie. In doing so, Verweij also points to the goal scored by Ryan Flamingo for PSV against Fortuna Sittard.
The journalist also saw that the equalizer of Milan Zonneveld, on behalf of Sparta Rotterdam against Feyenoord, was disallowed due to a slight shove by the Sparta striker. Still, Verweij is of the opinion that a foul was called for this.
''I can imagine this will be whistled for, it's just already chaos in gameweek one with those young referees'', the reporter says.
Next, Verweij uses Ryan Flamingo's goal as an example, where beforehand Paul Wanner very briefly tugged at the shirt of goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst. ''The day before at PSV against Fortuna Sittard, Branderhorst is held. Why does a striker grab someone by his shirt? Just whistle that off. If you don't, then you also have to let that goal by Zonneveld stand. Those decisions have to be consistent,'' continues the journalist.
In addition, the reporter can’t help but voice his annoyance about the refereeing. ''Zonneveld commits the foul, so that he blows for it is fine. Then do it every time, because this allows every defender to defend himself. I just can’t stand it, because Dutch referees seem to have a dislike for football. Everything is to the advantage of those defenders. If you punish these kinds of fouls in the penalty area, then you have to put him on the spot ten times per match. This happens on every corner, with every defender'', the journalist fumes.
Finally, Verweij also points to the traditional top three. ''It also just really bothers me that this kind of decision always turns out in favor of the top teams. It is never in favor of the smaller teams,'' the journalist said.

Wat mij betreft ligt het probleem niet alleen bij één beslissing, maar bij het patroon dat Verweij schetst: veel in het voordeel van de grotere clubs. Dat maakt het debat onnodig giftig en frustrerend voor ons als supporters. Boos maar eerlijk: consequentie is het enige dat telt. 👀
Eens, arbitragelijn moet hetzelfde zijn voor top en kleine clubs. Als het nooit in het voordeel van de "kleine ploegen" valt, dan maak je het spel stuk, en dat zie je echt terug in de duels. 💯
Zonneveld duwt licht, oké, fluiten. Maar dan moet je het niet selectief doen. Anders voelt het alsof verdedigers zich kunnen permitteren en dat is echt anti-voetbal. 🔥🤡
Na speelronde 1 heb ik al genoeg gezien... chaos met die jonge scheidsrechters inderdaad. Als ze uniform willen zijn, begin dan met het afstraffen van vasthouden aan shirtjes, of het nou PSV is of Sparta. 🤬
tbh ik snap wel dat scheidsrechters soms twijfelen, maar dit is geen grijs gebied. Als Wanner even aan dat shirtje zit, moet je dat meteen pakken. Anders krijgt Zonneveld's afkeuring ook geen echte basis.
"Fluit dat gewoon af" is precies wat ik ook dacht. Als je dat bij PSV laat staan, dan is het ook bij Sparta gewoon dezelfde logica. Jong geleerd, oud gedaan, maar deze regels blijven vaag.
"Alles is in het voordeel van die verdedigers" zegt hij, terwijl wij in de situatie van Flamingo profiteren van dezelfde twijfelachtige ruimte. Klopt het niet gewoon dat het te afhankelijk wordt van wie de beelden bekijkt? 👀
Wat mij betreft ligt het probleem niet bij PSV of Fortuna, maar bij de interpretatie. Als het elke corner wordt toegestaan, dan krijg je precies dat gedrag van verdedigers in het strafschopgebied. 🔥
Het woord "uniform" klopt gewoon. Bij corner situaties zie je te vaak dat verdedigers overduidelijk duwen en dan gebeurt er niks. En dan gaat men pas corrigeren als het topteams betreft... 🙄
I mean, "Fluit dat gewoon af" is easy to say, but refs moeten gewoon consistent zijn. Als je een keeper shirt-vasthouden afstraft, dan graag overal hetzelfde, ook bij het kleine duwtje bij Zonneveld.
If Flamingo goal was allowed, dan is dat imo omdat Wanner het net niet te gek maakt. Maar ik snap wel dat Verweij uniformiteit vraagt, want je ziet te vaak verschillende lijnen.
Bruh, Mike heeft echt een punt over die shirts trek-actie bij Flamingo. Als Branderhorst de dag ervoor "wel vastgehouden" wordt, dan moet je dit gewoon consequent fluiten. Anders wordt PSV elke week weer de pineut.
