Joey Veerman opens up about his switch to Borussia Dortmund
1 min readLast month Joey Veerman left PSV for Borussia Dortmund. Moreover, Veerman is back in the squad of the Netherlands national team.
The former PSV player made his return on Thursday in the Oranje shirt as a substitute for Quinten Timber. Veerman made a good impression and seems to have thereby also proven Ronald Koeman wrong, who had decided not to select the Volendam native anymore after the 2024 European Championship.
For a while it seemed as though no club would come for the former PSV player until two days after the lost match against AZ (0-4) in the Johan Cruijff Shield. In that game, Veerman received a red card early on, and partly because of that, the team coached by Peter Bosz lost without any chance.
In an interview with De Telegraaf, the midfielder talks about how a transfer to Die Schwarzgelben came about. As is well known, Veerman had a transfer clause in his contract, meaning the man from Volendam could be picked up from Eindhoven for a certain amount.

''Two days after that match I was called by Dortmund and then I also had a call with the coach and the technical director'', Veerman begins in conversation with the national newspaper.
After that, the former PSV player goes on. ''It still took two weeks before it became a deal. I’m happy that I’ve found a new challenge. I’ve gotten to know new people, and I’ve been able to play with new players. That also gives me energy,'' the midfielder says.
Moreover, according to Veerman, there are many differences between the Dutch and German leagues. ''Things are asked for there that are asked for less in the Netherlands. That is true at Champions League level or when you play a top match against Ajax or Feyenoord. But in Germany you play a top match every week. Even a team like Paderborn makes it very difficult for us. So far it has been going well for me. On Saturday (against VfB Stuttgart, ed.) I already won all my duels. I can do it'', said the former PSV player.

Dortmund-klimaat is duidelijk zwaarder.
