Italian, German and Spanish media turn their sights on PSV after winning against Ajax: “They stormed the Arena”

1 min read

The performances of PSV nowadays and for years in a row, incidentally, are closely monitored by international media due to participation in the Champions League. Neighboring countries such as England, Belgium and Germany, but also French, Italian and Spanish media, keep a close eye on PSV’s performances.

On Saturday evening, the international press saw PSV win in Amsterdam and thus immediately after the final whistle there were the necessary reports and analyses. International media saw a fantastic first half with open, end-to-end play that ebbed and flowed, but they also saw a poorer second half, in which PSV no longer got into trouble.

PSV dealt a heavy blow in Amsterdam

PSV delivered a first blow to Ajax on Saturday evening. This conclusion is drawn by the international media. The 1-3 victory at the Johan Cruijff ArenA gave the team coached by the Spanish manager Míchel Sánchez their first official defeat as Ajax manager.

'Ajax lost to PSV in a match in which the chances were not taken', Marca and Diario AS conclude. 'Ajax has invested heavily in new players and the team’s leadership has been handed to Míchel. He can’t perform miracles in record time, though. Again, a very weak defense cost Ajax the match. It was the first defeat under Míchel, and he still has a lot of work to do.'

The Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad saw PSV start strongly and also looked fitter. 'PSV won Saturday's top match of the fifth matchday in the Eredivisie easily against rival Ajax. The Eindhoven side thus put an end to a run of five head-to-head matches without a win against the club from the capital.'

PSV stormed the Johan Cruijff Arena

'PSV deals a major blow to Ajax in Amsterdam,' said BILD. 'Brandt played okay, but Ajax loses the duel with PSV,' said German Kicker. 'The top match between Ajax and PSV remained exciting for a long time, before the reigning champions secured the away win,' said Frankfurter Allgemeine.

Mundo Deportivo points to the fact that it was Ajax's first defeat under the leadership of Míchel. 'The reigning champions PSV surged into the Johan Cruijff ArenA and won De Topper, thereby temporarily taking the top spot on the league table,' said the Spanish quality newspaper.

"PSV Inside" has me thinking we finally found a way to break low blocks. But if the coach doesnt trust the half-spaces, we will keep recycling crosses... and that is mid, not peak 🔥⚽

"control in the middle" sounds nice, but tbh PSV need more urgency in the final third. Get the ball faster to Luuk and it becomes a different game, otherwise it turns into sideways passing and praying 😅

Wat ik mis? The article mentions pressing triggers, but on the right side we always look one step late. You can feel it when the winger gets turned, then the whole line has to scramble. Id play the fullback tighter and tell the 8 to jump earlier.

Im not fully convinced by the midfield shape described here. If Sangare doesnt get that first pass clean, they will just invite counters and then its Lukebakio vs the entire right side again... 4-3-3 can work, but only with real discipline 👀

If PSV starts playing like the article says, with more control in midfield, itll be scary. But i still want Xavi Simons to drop slightly deeper to connect those first-time passes. Otherwise teams will just sit and block the channels.

If PSV go with that high press again, i just hope it doesnt leave space behind the fullbacks. Bruma and Sambo as the outlet could be massive, but only if they stay composed under pressure 🔥
