In Bruges, people are looking forward to a European duel with PSV, and these two analysts are afraid: ‘Three points are already in the bag’

Last Thursday, PSV was drawn not only to play away matches against big names such as Real Madrid and FC Porto, but also to host a home game with Club Brugge from Belgium. In our southern neighbor, people are already looking forward to the clashes that are coming up in the billion-dollar competition.

Club Brugge kicks off its European campaign next Tuesday with a home match against Europa League winner Aston Villa. In matchday 4, the Belgians face PSV at the Philips Stadion and in the second matchday, the team of Croatian coach Ivan Leko travels to face Internazionale at San Siro.

For goalkeeper Yann Sommer, this poster is extra special since Sommer was under contract with Inter from 2023 until last summer. Speaking to the club channels, the Swiss delves deeper into the matchup against his former employer, where the goalkeeper was crowned national champion twice and also reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2025.

''I am really looking forward to this campaign. The Champions League is always something special and of course it is extra special for me to be allowed to play against Inter in San Siro, where I have played in recent years. I am really looking forward to it'', says the 37-year-old goalkeeper.

Besides PSV, Aston Villa and Internazionale, Club Brugge also faces RC Lens, VfB Stuttgart, FK Bodø/Glimt, Liverpool and Napoli. The last two clubs played PSV last year in the Champions League, and Peter Bosz's team managed to surprise everyone by playing both clubs off the pitch (6-2 at home against Napoli and 1-4 away at Liverpool).

Nevertheless, Sommer believes that the Belgians can put something beautiful together. ''We have to believe in it because if we don't, we might as well not start the campaign. We believe in our team and in our qualities, but the Champions League is the Champions League: it is the highest level in football. We want to win matches and progress as well, because that's our objective,'' said the Swiss.

In the Netherlands, people certainly do not fear Club Brugge. At least, that’s the case for Marco Timmer of Voetbal International and Bjorn van der Doelen. In the podcast Skiete Willy, both analysts claim that PSV at home will go on to win against Club Brugge. Those points are already in, and of course we fully agree with that.
