"I actually think we should take Guus Til with us to the World Cup after all."

After three days of training in Zeist, national team coach Ronald Koeman will announce on Wednesday afternoon the final Oranje squad for the 2026 World Cup. The big question for many PSV fans is whether Guus Til, as the only PSV player, will be given a spot in the squad by the national team coach.

Analyst Theo Janssen told Monday evening on Rondo on Ziggo Sport that Til should go along to the World Cup, and PSV watcher Tim Reedijk of Voetbal International shares the same opinion. The reporter says this to colleague Sjoerd Keizer in the podcast VI ZSM of Voetbal International.

Last Monday, Til was one of the six players who was received by national team coach Ronald Koeman. Former PSV player Noa Lang was also in attendance, along with goalkeeper Mark Flekken and midfielders Quinten Timber, Luciano Valente and Kees Smit.

After a while, the Emperor starts talking about the fact that these players appeared in Zeist last Monday. ''Who really needs to go with Oranje to the World Cup?'', the presenter asks Reedijk.

Reedijk thinks that Flekken is a sure thing, after which the PSV watcher goes on to discuss the rest. ''As for those other players, I think there’s more discussion, because you could also feel more competition. Smit and Valente, Quinten Timber, are all those midfielders who, so to speak, could sit just behind the starting lineup. So they’ll all still have tension'', Reedijk says.

''Actually, I do think that we should take Guus Til with us to the World Cup. And he’s really not a player who, maybe three-quarters of a year ago, you would simply have put down for the World Cup—absolutely not. Only I think his season would justify that you include him, because he has played in all kinds of roles in midfield at PSV'', concludes the journalist.

After that, Reedijk goes into more detail about the fact that Til this season was also regularly deployed in the front line. ''I even saw him once again lower down in midfield, of course a lot at '10', but also his striker position. He scored an enormous number of goals for PSV as the foremost player'', said Reedijk.

Next, the possible role of Til in Orange is discussed. ''Til will not become a regular starter with Orange, and he knows that himself very well too, which, by the way, I think is also an important condition for taking him along. That he himself very much wants it, but also understands: 'I won't be in the starting eleven right away', but if you have to force things or there are some spaces available, he is a player you could use in a lot of different ways'', concludes the PSV watcher.
