Guus Til addresses Xavi
1 min readAfter Justin Kluivert dropped out, Guus Til was called up by Xavi Hernandez for the Netherlands. Til was on target last Sunday with the winning assist.
In the end, Mexx Meerdink was the big man on the side of the Netherlands thanks to two goals for and against Serbia (1-2). In doing so, national team coach Xavi decided to bring Til on during the second half of Tijani Reijnders.
The PSV player proved his great value as the midfielder, after a good pass from former PSV teammate Joey Veerman, managed to get the ball to Meerdink. The AZ striker then fired in the winning goal, thereby giving Xavi his first victory as head coach of the Netherlands.
After the end of the duel in the Serbian capital Belgrade, Til spoke with NOS. In doing so, the PSV player also addressed the chance he offered to Ruben van Bommel, but Van Bommel did not get the ball into the net, causing Oranje to fail to make it 1-3.
''I just do what I think is best. At that moment I thought that that was the right choice, to lay him wide, but unfortunately,'' the midfielder said about the missed chance at 1-3.
Together with Kenneth Taylor, Til came into the second half on the field. ''With us, energy came along. It became a bit more dynamic'', the PSV player said.
Moreover, the midfielder also addressed the new national team coach. “Spain has dominated in recent years, including in terms of playing style. It will be interesting to see how he does it,” said Til.

Die gemiste kans voor 1-3 blijft frustrerend. "hij breed te leggen" klinkt logisch, maar als hij zo'n bal zo hard legt moet Van Bommel hem gewoon raken, anders blijf je hangen in net-niet jongens.
Xavi die gedomineerd voetbal van Spanje benoemt, oké, maar ik ben benieuwd hoe snel Oranje dat ook echt gaat laten zien. Tot nu toe was het vooral slim schakelen en Meerdink die het afmaakt, niet per se pure controle 🤡
Til zei: "Met ons kwam er wel energie bij." Ik snap het, maar ik wil hem bij PSV ook zo vaak vanaf minuut 60 zien. Nu hopen dat hij die vorm meeneemt naar de competitie 🔥⚽
Tbh Til lijkt me zo'n speler die pas echt groeit als hij ruimte krijgt om te verbinden, precies wat Veerman hem gaf. Als die dynamiek met Taylor al helpt na de rust, dan zie ik PSV-gevoel bij Oranje.
Xavi die Til en Taylor laat invallen op het juiste moment vind ik slim, zeker na het afhaken van Kluivert. Alleen wel jammer dat Van Bommel de bal niet in het net kreeg, want met 1-3 was het duel meteen geklaard. Overall: PSV-reliance werkt, Veerman-Til is weer een fijne lijn.
"dat moment dacht ik dat dat de juiste keuze was" ja maar man, van Bommel had daar 1-3 moeten prikken. Toch wel fijn dat Til niet zat te zwijgen na afloop.
Die gemiste kans op 1-3 was echt zonde, "helaas" is zachtjes gezegd... Maar ik snap wat Til bedoelt, breed leggen is logisch als je tijd hebt. Volgende keer raak je em gewoon, hoor 👀
Guus Til erin tegen Servië en meteen waarde, die assist kwam ook echt uit de juiste hoek. En dan na zo'n actie ook nog die woorden over Xavi, mooi.
Til kwam erin en Meteen energie, dat "dynamischer" gevoel klopt wel. Tbh die assist en dan ook nog zo'n beslissing om Meerdink te bedienen, dat is precies de wapenrusting die je nodig hebt.
