Gullit points at PSV player: “I hope he gets the spark now.”
1 min readLast Sunday, Sven Mijnans, as a starting player for PSV, was responsible for a hat-trick against Sparta Rotterdam. On paper, Mijnans was deployed as a striker and therefore cashed in on coach Peter Bosz's trust with three goals in a 4-1 victory over the Rotterdammers.
The midfielder arrived last summer for around thirteen million euros from AZ and thereby became PSV’s first summer signing. Despite this, Mijnans had a difficult start in Eindhoven, but now it seems the newcomer has found his rhythm.
Nevertheless, according to former PSV player and current Ziggo Sport analyst Ruud Gullit, there are still a few areas for improvement. ''When Mijnans came on the last time, I found him a bit timid. It is also adapting to a higher level. I hope he gets the spark now'', Gullit says in the program Rondo on Ziggo Sport.
After that, the general director of PSV, Marcel Brands, steps in, and according to Brands, the newcomer looks at his own play with a realistic mindset. ''There he was himself very realistic. Peter spoke with him after the preparations and then he said: I don’t feel like I’m already bringing what I can bring'', says Brands.

Then the general director goes on to discuss Peter Bosz's words about Mijnans. ''Peter also said: In fact I really can't get around him anymore. He's playing brilliantly and he's a boy who manifests himself in a very positive way'', Brands continues.
According to Gullit, there is now also the necessary competition up front at PSV, and the former world footballer also points to the performance of Ricardo Pepi against Shakhtar Donetsk (1-1) in the UEFA Champions League. ''Against Shakhtar, Pepi was practically not involved. They had it difficult already, but he also did not make himself visible. He didn’t ask for the ball, and that’s how they got into trouble as well,'' said the former PSV player.

Come on, dont overhype it. Even with good decisions, we need 1 more runner into the half-space, otherwise teams just sit and block the middle. Still, I get the plan.
🔥 This is the kind of rotation that makes PSV dangerous. If the article is right about sticking with that shape, the front three will get better service and create more chaos in the box.
"Inside PSV" always makes it sound so tactical and calm, but our defensive transitions are still the weak spot. When we lose the ball in midfield, it becomes chaos in 2 seconds. Fix that and we are scary.
I liked the idea, but we still look shaky when the fullbacks get pulled wide. If our winger is tracked tightly, the build-up gets stuck and opponents press harder. Need a cleaner option between the lines, asap.
If PSV bring this intensity from the first 20 minutes, we can actually control games again. Tbh the way our midfield moves the ball forward is what decides if this turns into a stroll or a grind. 3 points, please.
