German media | “This will be the biggest Eredivisie transfer of all time”

1 min read

No one could have missed that Ruben van Bommel made his debut for the Netherlands on Thursday evening against Germany.

The PSV player was just as good for an assist. In the 83rd minute, Van Bommel came on for Crysencio Summerville, and in the 92nd minute the left winger was on hand with a fantastic cross for the assist on Cody Gakpo's 1-1. That prevented a defeat for debuting national team coach Xavi Hernandez. Football-loving Europe is impressed by Ruben van Bommel's development.

German media also note that Orange again has a gem among its ranks. For the player himself, it is a particularly special debut, as the winger is the first footballer in Dutch history to play for the Netherlands after grandfather Bert van Marwijk and father Mark van Bommel. In addition, Ruben’s debut comes against Germany, while ironically the last international match of his father Mark was also against Die Mannschaft at the 2012 European Championship.

ESPN analyst Hans Kraay Jr. is, in any case, full of praise for the winger's move against the Germans. Kraay says so after the match on ESPN.

''He is just a Schwarzenegger 2.0 when he was 22. But it doesn't come at the expense of his speed. It's just a technical Usain Bolt'', the former footballer says, impressed.

Presenter Jan-Joost van Gangelen also praises the PSV player. ''He’s broad, serious... I saw him away at Excelsior—man, that guy has such a frame at the back, with cables over his back,'' said Van Gangelen about Van Bommel, who has also not gone unnoticed by German media.

The drive of Ruben van Bommel has also not gone unnoticed with our eastern neighbors. The world cup passport of Gakpo was therefore extensively analyzed by the well-known German media that are on top of the national German team. BILD and SKY Sports Germany are full of praise for the development of the son of former FC Bayern star Mark van Bommel. Kicker also has praise for the young Van Bommel, who has a great future ahead of him at both PSV and the national team.

BILD and SKY calling it the biggest Eredivisie transfer ever is peak German media lol. Still, Kicker's point about the future feels fair, but let him lock down his role at PSV first. 🔥

"He's just a Schwarzenegger 2.0 when he was 22" lol bruh, that phrasing is wild 😂 Still, Gakpo's goal comes from that 'world ticket' pass, you love to see PSV letting their academy cook.

Kraay and Van Gangelen hyping the frame is cool, but for me the real thing is his timing when he came on for Summerville. If PSV can keep feeding him in those half-space moments, this could be a big step up.

Ngl the German "Schwarzenegger 2.0" line is kinda funny but also kinda true. The fact he didnt sacrifice speed is the best part, he actually looked dangerous on the wing.

"Schwarzenegger 2.0" is hilarious but also kinda true, the frame is mad for a winger. If his speed is really not sacrificed, PSV should be feeding him way more in open play. 👀

Love the assist for Gakpo, but i still wonder why he was brought on that late. Still, the execution was top, and shows his timing vs Germany.

That 92nd minute cross was proper quality, the kind of sub impact you love. 🚀 Van Bommel really does have that "technical Usain Bolt" vibe Hans Kraay was talking about.

That assist timing was mad, 92nd minute cross and boom 1-1. Van Bommel looked like he belongs in Oranje straight away 🔥🐐
