Former PSV players see changes and point to PSV: “That is no longer the case.”
1 min readWim Kieft and René van der Gijp see big differences with the Netherlands national team of the past and of today. That’s what the analysts say in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp.
With this, Van der Gijp mainly means the fact that there are currently few players in the Orange squad who are active in the Eredivisie. ''In our time it was a little less, because nobody was playing abroad. We played at PSV with six guys who played for the Netherlands national team. That is no longer the case'', says the analyst.
The former striker is also of the opinion that a Dutch match often turns out disappointing compared to foreign fixtures. ''Of course, but that has always been the case,'' said Van der Gijp.
Despite that, Wim Kieft can have a great time with the Dutch competition. ''When I look at FC Twente, Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord or FC Utrecht, it’s just good football. In your head, you do take into account that when they play against FC Barcelona, they’ll probably go down by 8 or 9-0. It is still fun to watch. When you watch a match like that and they keep shooting him out, or wide, then it stands out much more,'' says Kieft.

Then Van der Gijp jumps back in again, and Gijp points to FC Bayern forward Michael Olise. ''That Olise just slots every ball in at the moment. That’s not normal. Bayern Munich won 6-0, but maybe you (Kieft, editor) could have got in there too. With 6-0, at a certain point the pressure is off,'' concludes the man from Dordrecht.

Eens. In "Onze tijd" you could literally line up with those PSV guys in Oranje. Now it feels like talent gets shipped early, and the connection isnt as obvious.
If Bayern wins 6-0 and the pressure drops after the 3rd goal, fair... but Olise still had to execute. That is the difference: some players dont miss, even when the game is over.
Van der Gijp pointing at Olise is wild. 6-0 and he basically just makes everything look automatic, bruh. PSV fans also know how hard that level is.
Wim Kieft saying Dutch games disappoint compared to foreign duels is cap imo. When PSV is on their speed, the league is peak entertainment, not mid.
Kieft is right that we can actually enjoy Eredivisie weekends. Even if big Europe nights hurt expectations, domestic football is still way more tactical than people admit.
I get the point, but "Dat is nu niet meer" feels a bit selective. Still, it is true we dont see as many Eredivisie guys in Oranje as in the PSV era.
