Former champions active at PSV Academy

Former PSV players Davy Pröpper and Marco van Ginkel have recently become part of the PSV Academy. Both former midfielders help improve the skills of PSV U19.

Pröpper and Van Ginkel played together over three periods in Eindhoven. In 2016, they became Dutch champions with PSV on the last matchday after a 1-3 victory at PEC Zwolle and a surprising draw by Ajax on their visit to De Graafschap.

Earlier, former defender Nicolas Isimat-Mirin also joined the PSV Academy. Phillip Cocu, since 1 December 2025 Manager of Elite Sports at PSV, would like to use former PSV players to share their experiences with PSV youth.

Pröpper left PSV in 2017 to go play football at Brighton & Hove Albion in England. After four years in England, the midfielder returned to PSV in 2021, to then end his career half a year later since at that time he had lost the pleasure.

In January 2023, the midfielder returned to professional football to play again at his youth club Vitesse. However, his return was not entirely successful due to a number of injuries, and in the summer of 2024, Pröpper definitively stopped playing football.

Van Ginkel played on a loan basis for PSV from 2015/2016 to 2017/2018, and in the latter season he was the captain under Phillip Cocu. In the first two mentioned seasons, the midfielder played the second half of the season at PSV.

Through a new rental period in 2020/2021, Van Ginkel became definitively a PSV player in 2021/2022 and was also made captain under Roger Schmidt after the departure of Denzel Dumfries. Largely due to a lot of injury setbacks and the necessary competition in midfield, the former midfielder was unable to secure a starting spot, and in the winter of 2022/2023 Van Ginkel returned to Vitesse, before subsequently ending his career via Boavista last summer.
