Expansion of Philips Stadium is now really getting closer: ‘Buy a raincoat’

1 min read

Earlier this year, PSV presented plans to expand the Philips Stadium. In 2027, the first renovations should begin.

The intention is that the capacity of the stadium in 2030 is at least 52,000 spectators. At this time, the current capacity is at least 35,000 spectators.

Managing director Marcel Brands already told more about the expansion during the Rondo program on Ziggo Sport on 14 September. ''If everything works out, it should take two or two and a half years for it to be completely ready. The plan is that there will be a go or a no-go decision by the end of the year. If that go comes, we want to start immediately after the season. That is a very big wish'', Brands said in that broadcast.

It has also become known that during the first renovations, the stadium roof will be removed. In the summer of 2029, the new roof will be installed on the renovated stadium.

Project leader Teun Wartenbergh therefore comes with an urgent piece of advice to the PSV faithful. ''The roof is out for a while. It doesn’t rain often, but for anyone who still doesn’t have a rain jacket, this is the moment to get one,'' says Wartenbergh to Eindhovens Dagblad.

Stadium director Sjors van den Boogaart of PSV speaks to the ED about a thrilling project. ''For PSV this may well be the biggest decision in the club’s history. We still believe it has a great chance of succeeding, but we aren’t there yet. Whether it will go ahead depends on the financing, but all signs must be green. It is an exciting project. I can name a hundred things I’ve been nervous about. We’ll make that decision once everything is in place,'' said Van den Boogaart.

"preserve the energy for the final 20 minutes" is exactly why i trust this group. Sub timings have been key lately, especially if the article is right about keeping the legs for transition football. W too, lets go PSV ⚽🔥

Hard to argue with the intensity, but PSV still need more goals from open play. Defending looked solid, yet the transition moments felt slightly rushed.

That substitution timing... 👀 was it meant to protect the lead or chase the equalizer? ngl i wouldve done it 10 mins earlier.

Not sure i buy the praise for the high press. When we go 30-40 meters up, their runners just eat the space behind the fullbacks. Brings good chances, but it also leaves us shaky on the counter... 👀

If PSV want to keep winning, the midfield balance has to be cleaner. The article's point about controlling the second balls is true, but we cant invite pressure every time we lose the duel. Lijkt alsof Toornstra-achtig spel nog gemist wordt, quick cover please.

"tactical flexibility" sounds nice, but i wanna see it in minutes, not just plans. When we switched shapes, the midfield space opened up again and it almost cost us.

Im not fully convinced about the pressing trigger they mentioned. If they step out too early, the counters will kill them, especially with quick wingers.

Goal!! 🔥 Wouters looked calm on the ball and that composure is exactly what PSV need when teams park the bus.

If PSV are trying to control games like this, i love the build-up. But without better final ball from the wing, its gonna be the same story every week, hope the coach fixes that.
