ESPN analyst picks a favorite for Ajax vs. PSV: “You can see it reflected”
1 min readNext Saturday, PSV travels in matchday 5 to Amsterdam for the top-of-the-table clash against Ajax. Peter Bosz’s side will kick off at 8 p.m. in the Johan Cruijff Arena, where Bosz, as coach of PSV, still hadn’t managed to win.
According to ESPN analyst Marciano Vink, a former player for both Ajax and PSV, PSV is the favorite for the first top clash of this season in the Eredivisie. Vink says this in an interview with De Telegraaf.
According to the former footballer, that is also because many PSV players are familiar with the style of play of coach Peter Bosz. ''At the moment, PSV seems to me to be further than Ajax. Also at PSV, a few new players still need to be incorporated, such as Lutsharel Geertruida and Filip Kostic, but in Eindhoven there is already genuinely a framework. A large part of the squad is familiar with the playing style of the trainer they have already been working with for several seasons, and you can see that reflected. There is more clarity, more stability. Experienced players like Mauro Junior, Ivan Perisic and Guus Til are very important in that'', the analyst says.
At Ajax, a lot has happened over the past summer in the field of transfers. Technical director Jordi Cruijff seems to be aiming high, and that has not escaped Vink either.
According to the former footballer, coach Michel still hasn’t found the right starting lineup. ''There have been quite a few changes and Michel is still clearly looking for the right fit. You can see the changes up front between Tolu Arokodare and Marcos Leonardo. After the departure of Mika Godts, Abdellah Ouazzane and Oscar Gloukh have alternated at left back, and now there is a new left winger,'' Vink says.
In the end, the former PSV player and ex-Ajax man points to the Amsterdam back line. ''At the back it is very young. Now the German international Thilo Kehrer is coming in, but then who will go out again? There are still so many question marks at Ajax. But having said that, this Ajax has already shown, in parts of matches, some beautiful football this season,'' the analyst said.

"Dat zie je terug", ik snap de boodschap maar ik ben benieuwd hoeveel punten PSV uit dit soort wedstrijden haalt. Als Kehrer nog niet meteen goed ingekoppeld is, kan Ajax daar toch een opening vinden, zeker als de spits wisselt zoals Vink beschrijft. Tbh als PSV zo'n duidelijke structuur heeft, dan gaat het niet om geluk, maar om wie het ritme het eerste pakt. 🔥⚽
Niet mee eens hoor. "Ervaren jongens als Mauro Junior, Ivan Perisic en Guus Til" is leuk, maar Bosz of PSV of wie dan ook krijgt in de Cruijff Arena alsnog gezeur als Ajax vroeg druk zet. En die backline is jong, ok, maar Michel is ook nog aant sleutelen aan de spits en links. Dan kan het tegen PSV ineens wél kloppen... of niet.
"Achterin is het erg jong." Ja logisch, en dan krijgen ze ineens Thilo Kehrer erbij. Maar PSV gaat dus moeten profiteren, anders betaalt Ajax het gewoon terug met voetbal. Benieuwd of Bosz dit keer echt de juiste balans vindt tegen een wisselvallig Ajax. 👀
Idk, Ajax heeft toch ook al mooie delen laten zien dit seizoen. Alleen klopt het dat Michel zoekt, maar als ze achterin weer die jeugd en Kehrer moeten inpassen, kan het ook juist een open wedstrijd worden. Wie eruit gaat, dat is echt de vraag met die verdediging 💀
Favouritism klinkt altijd mooier dan het is, maar ja dit zie je terug: PSV heeft meer vastigheid door het Bosz-systeem. Geertruida en Kostic moeten nog landen, toch voelt PSV als 'het geraamte' klopt. Guus Til en Perisic helpen straks ook echt om tempo te houden.
Die ervaren jongens worden volgens mij onderschat. Mauro Junior, Perisic en Guus Til kunnen het verschil maken als Ajax weer met spits- en flankwissels komt. Maar ik hoop wel dat PSV niet te vroeg gaat leunen en meteen druk houdt 🚀
"Op dit moment lijkt PSV me verder dan Ajax." Eerlijk, dat snap ik. Ze hebben met Geertruida en Kostic nog puzzelstukjes, maar het fundament staat er al. Ajax lijkt me nog steeds aan het schuiven in de opstelling, zeker voorin.
PSV favoriet tbh. Bosz heeft daar gewoon meer duidelijkheid, en je ziet het meteen in hoe die groep al ingespeeld is 🔥
