ESPN analyst on a million-dollar transfer: “He looked like he still had a PSV shirt on; he’s going to be a difference-maker there.”
1 min readLast month, Joey Veerman left PSV after four and a half years to continue his career at Borussia Dortmund. With that, Veerman finally got the transfer he wanted, as it had for a long time seemed that the midfielder would stay at PSV until BVB therefore came calling in Eindhoven.
Last Tuesday, Veerman started in the lineup during Borussia Dortmund’s match against Spanish Villarreal CF (3-2) in the UEFA Champions League. The now former PSV player managed to impress, and the fans of Die Schwarzgelben were also full of praise for the performance of the midfielder.
Moreover, Veerman played the full ninety minutes, and that also seems to have made former national team coach Ronald Koeman see it the wrong way, to the extent that he should no longer have been selected for the Netherlands national team after the European Championship 2024. Also, ESPN analyst Karim El Ahmadi is full of praise for the match in which the midfielder played against Villarreal CF.
El Ahmadi says this on the program Voetbalpraat by ESPN. ''It simply looked as if he was wearing a PSV shirt; that’s how he was playing football. Exactly what he did at PSV, he is now doing at the highest level at Dortmund. You could see it was going to be a difference-maker at Dortmund'', says the former midfielder.

Also Anco Jansen is impressed. ''And the substitutions came when it was still level. He played well'', Jansen said. In short, the multi-million transfer of Joey Veerman to Borussia Dortmund has turned out well for all parties. After having sat on the bench for just one match, Veerman appeared in the starting lineup in every match of the black-and-yellow club from Dortmund.
