ED: 'PSV defender drops a spot in the hierarchy'

Last Saturday, PSV played in matchday 5 the first Topper of the 2026/2027 season. Peter Bosz’s side managed to deliver an immediate, painful blow by winning 1-3 against their rivals Ajax.

In their previous duels against FC Groningen (5-1) and FC Utrecht (1-6), Bosz made a change and that was Lutsharel Geertruida instead of Ryan Flamingo. Geertruida made an excellent impression and was also good for a world-class goal shortly before halftime, which meant PSV went into the break leading 1-2.

As a result, Het Eindhovens Dagblad also draws the conclusion that Flamingo has dropped in the pecking order at PSV. The local newspaper reports this on Tuesday morning.

''The central defender was ''over'' after 75 minutes, but had made an impression beforehand. The whole match was a useful contribution in possession, and just before halftime there was even a goal: Geertruida had it all in his toolbox. It does mean, though, that Ryan Flamingo has slipped a place in the pecking order'', concludes the ED.

Nevertheless, the newspaper manages to report that Flamingo, who came to PSV in the summer of 2024, is handling this situation well. The newspaper also provides a defense for defender Armando Obispo.

The bishop was earlier this transfer summer on the shortlist to leave for RC Lens, but the transfer fell through at the very last moment, meaning the defender is still playing in the PSV jersey. ''The 27-year-old defender seems to be getting more and more important every year. The only thing he still lacks is a very long run of matches that he concludes with a green tick'', according to the ED.
