De Telegraaf must respond to Hugo Borst

1 min read

It will most likely have escaped few people that Hugo Borst, on Saturday after the Ajax - PSV match, could not contain his emotions following Ruben van Bommel's action on Aaron Bouwman. Borst said during the program De Eretribune on ESPN that Van Bommel had to seek professional help and also spoke about a murder attempt by the PSV player.

Moreover, the Spartans also enlisted PSV icon Mark van Bommel, who is also Ruben’s father. This went down particularly badly with the PSV supporters and a few days later Borst once again made it clear in his column for Algemeen Dagblad that he would stick to his position regarding Ruben van Bommel.

''Van Bommel, aartje to his little voyage, did not only inherit his father’s talent (top footballer with a winners’ mentality), but also his darker side. The ball was not even anywhere near. It was stupid and unnecessary. To prevent reoffending, professional help is necessary,'' Borst wrote in the AD.

Still, there is also support for Van Bommel. Where Johan Derksen and Willem van Hanegem previously complained about the fuss, the current PSV player also receives support from PSV watcher Jeroen Kapteijns of De Telegraaf.

Captain shares on the social media platform X a photo with statistics of Ruben van Bommel in which Van Bommel, in 123 matches, has never been sent off the pitch with a red card. With this, the journalist seems to be taking a jab at Borst.

''For a destructive footballer with a black edge and a recidivist, the law of Ruben van Bommel is strikingly clean. In 123 matches as a club footballer 0 red cards. In that column, of course, a 1 should have been there since Saturday after the far too hard challenge on Bouwman, but the urge of some to see a pattern (often with father Mark’s past in mind) and for Van Bommel junior to be parachuted in after just one - admittedly rough - mistake as the dirtiest footballer on the NL’s pitches is not supported by the statistics'', writes Kapteijns.

In addition, the reporter also saw that Kodai Sano was shown a yellow card by Ajax captain Davy Klaassen. ''There was more that went wrong in terms of officiating in Ajax-PSV. Here Sano gets a yellow card, whereas it is actually Klaassen who, after playing the ball, puts his foot on Sano's leg,'' the PSV watcher previously wrote under a video in which Sano was punished with yellow.

"harteloos, zwarte kantje, recidivist"... Borst is weer lekker bezig lol.
