Clubwatcher Verweij: ‘Ajax wants to sell him to everyone, except PSV’

Ajax does not rule out a summer move for Youri Baas. According to De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij, the Amsterdam club is willing to seriously consider an offer for the 23-year-old defender, as long as it meets expectations. The arrival of Daley Blind would have had an impact on Baas's position within the squad.

In the podcast Kick-off, Verweij discusses the possible outgoing transfers at Ajax. First, the future of Josip Sutalo comes up, who, according to Croatian media, is in the interest of several clubs, including Benfica. Next, the club watcher focuses on Baas.

“I also heard that some others might still be allowed to leave and that Ajax would even be willing to consider a bid for Youri Baas if that happens,” Verweij says.

According to the journalist, the return of Blind ensured that Baas has changed his status within the squad. “Baas seems to be the one who ends up paying the price a bit,” Verweij said. At the same time, he emphasizes that coach Míchel Sánchez has precisely a lot of confidence in the left-footed defender.

“After the game against Shelbourne, we also talked with Míchel Sánchez afterwards, and he is very confident about Baas. He really seems to have him down.”

Trust, however, does not mean, according to Verweij, that a transfer is impossible. When a club comes forward with an attractive offer, Ajax is open to selling. “I think that if there’s a good offer, then a sale would also be up for discussion,” he concludes.

The name of Baas also came up this transfer period in connection with PSV. However, Verweij does not expect Ajax to let the defender simply leave for a direct competitor. “Unless they come over with a big sack of money,” he says about a possible Eindhoven bid. “I think Ajax wants to sell him to everyone, except the competitors in the Netherlands.”
