Bosz goes deeper into the issue of substitution against Ajax
1 min readLast Saturday, PSV won 1-3 against Ajax in Amsterdam and thereby handed the Peter Bosz side the first blow to the rival from the capital. After a little over an hour, Bosz decided to take the experienced Ivan Perisic off the field for Esmir Bajraktarevic, to the great disbelief of Perisic himself.
The Croat was clearly not happy with this substitution and was also furious when he had to leave the field. At the press conference ahead of the PSV - Shakhtar Donetsk match in the UEFA Champions League this coming Thursday, player and coach look back on the Croat's substitution against Ajax.
''I wasn't happy, but it's okay. I was doing very well in the match, so I didn't understand it at the time. Maybe they saw my data and were afraid that I'd run too much in ninety minutes,'' Perisic jokes, as quoted by Sportnieuws.nl.
However, the versatile footballer is not going to stand still for long with this substitution. ''Then maybe I wouldn’t be ready for the match against Shakhtar Donetsk. I assume that was the main reason for bringing me on and I have to say that the substitutions worked out well too. I was angry at first, but even on the bench I did everything I could to help us win the match. I’ve quickly forgotten it and the focus is back on the next match'', the Croat said.

Ultimately, his substitute Esmir Bajraktarevic definitively put the match in Amsterdam to bed by firing the 1-3 into the nets in stoppage time. Even so, Bosz finds the reaction of the experienced Perisic wonderful.
''He is still not happy. He doesn't have to understand it either. I want to be able to use Ivan for a whole season. He has hardly had any injuries—only one small one since he came to PSV—and we would like to keep it that way. If I were to let him play ninety minutes in every match, then one thing is certain: then he will not be available for forty to fifty matches this season. And that's what I want'', concludes the coach.

That quote about "dan is hij ... geen veertig à vijftig wedstrijden beschikbaar" is very realistic, imo. You cannot treat a rival match like Ajax as the same workload as Champions League, so i respect Bosz here. Focus shift to Shakhtar is the right move 👀
Perisic pissed off on the touchline is hilarious but also kinda worrying for team chemistry. If Bosz keeps rotating like that, the key is making sure the subs keep adding goals like Bajraktarevic did, otherwise it turns into mid-season frustration 💀
Bosz saying he only had "one small" injury since arriving is peak squad planning. But if we are already controlling games at Ajax away, why not let him play 85-90 and sub someone else? 👀
"Hij is nog steeds niet blij." honestly love that mentality. If he grinds even on the bench, thats elite attitude 🔥🐐
I get the rotation logic, but you could feel the tension live. Bajraktarevic scored and finished it off though, so i cant really complain. Still, Perisic getting subbed after being on fire is never nice to watch.
"Ik zat erg goed in de wedstrijd" man, i get it... but tbh the plan is clearly to manage minutes for Shakhtar. And if Perisic can handle the role and still fire up from the bench, thats peak professionalism 🔥⚽
That quote about "hij heeft amper blessures gehad" is exactly what makes sense. If you keep Perisic fresh, you get 40-50 matches out of him, not 34 broken ones. Smart management by Bosz.
The swap was awkward, Perisic looked fuming, but tbh Bosz is probably thinking long-term. Let him cook the Europa/CL too, not just Ajax games.
Bosz saying Perisic has "amper blessures gehad" is big confidence stuff. But if he was visibly fuming, idk, feels like a calculated risk... still, Bajraktarevic closing it in stoppage time makes it look smart.
