Belgian journalist points at Van Bommel
1 min readPSV icon Mark van Bommel can’t be broken in Belgium anymore. The Belgian journalist Frank Buyse writes in the medium de Zondag.
Van Bommel had an excellent debut as head coach of the Red Devils, with a 0-2 win over Italy last Friday. However, last Monday it went wrong at home just before time against France, and the French ultimately won 0-1.
Despite this, people in Belgium are generally positive about the born Maasbracht native. Van Bommel was appointed after the World Cup in North America as successor to the departed Rudi Garcia, and many analysts can already clearly see the hand of the Dutchman in the Belgium national team.
Buyse also speaks of a breath of fresh air with the Red Devils. ''Since Friday, all of Belgium has embraced the Dutch national team coach'', the reporter writes in Het Zondag.

The journalist is also impressed by how Van Bommel conducts himself along the touchline. ''Without much fuss. Along the line, a coach in a simple black sweater and casual trousers, hands loosely in his pockets, a focused gaze,'' Buyse said.
For Van Bommel & co., there are still two matches on the calendar during this international break. Next Friday, the match against Turkey in Liège is scheduled, and on Monday, October 5, the match against France in Paris is on the program.

Franks Buyse is basically hyping him already, and imo its earned from that Italy win. still, i hope Van Bommel does not overdo tinkering, because Belgium needs a settled plan for those two remaining games. 🔥
"Sinds vrijdag heeft heel België de Nederlandse bondscoach omarmd"... yeah ok but i want to see it hold after the first real pressure moment. France in Paris is the real test, no cap. 💀
0-2 vs Italy is a banger start, but 0-1 at home vs France is where it gets tricky. can they keep that structure against Turkey in Luik? 👀
Buyse's description of Van Bommel on the sideline is so spot on. He looks calm and focused, no theatrics, just doing his job. If Belgium matches that discipline, PSV fans will be watching closely.
tbh i like the idea of a "frisse wind" but belgium still needs results, not vibes. that 0-1 loss vs france is a reality check though.
