At the start, it sounds like: “Soon he can take on the fight with Frenkie de Jong.”
1 min readAfter two years away, former PSV player Joey Veerman is again part of Oranje. Veerman started on Sunday against Serbia (1-2).
After the 2024 European Championship in Germany, the midfielder’s spell ended when then national team coach Ronald Koeman stopped using him for the Netherlands national team. In addition, ahead of the World Cup in North America, the former PSV player openly clashed with Koeman, who cited, among other things, the character of the then PSV player as a reason for not selecting him.
With Xavi Hernandez at the helm, a new breeze has therefore blown through the KNVB and Veerman has been called up to the squad again. That hasn't escaped the attention of the hosts of the popular podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp either.
''And Joey Veerman back, that is also pretty nice, right?'', says presenter Michel van Egmond, after which agent Rob Jansen chimes in. ''That’s also fine. And right away he can really take on Frenkie de Jong, who is still going to be there for a while for him'', says Jansen.

Then Wim Kieft joins the discussion and Kieft praises Veerman for the way the midfielder addressed the press. ''He did that well, with all those questions. The journalists want to get somewhere and hear something about Ronald Koeman, but he stayed away from that. He did that well,'' the former PSV striker gets things going.
Jansen shares Kieft's opinion, but makes a caveat in the process. "As a player, you can still just remain civil, after all. He did that properly. You can also simply say: 'Hey, I'm here now and we're going to start again.' And besides, it's not as if we would have won the World Cup if Veerman had been there. Right?", said the agent.
