Analyst Ziggo Sport points to PSV: “Don’t misunderstand me”
1 min readZiggo Sport analyst Theo Janssen hopes that the title race in the 2026/2027 season will be a lot more exciting than last season. Janssen says this in an interview with Voetbal International.
PSV hopes to make a bid for a fourth consecutive league title this season, and last season the team coached by Peter Bosz even became the earliest ever champions in the history of the Eredivisie. Last Sunday, PSV still had a false start, suffering a 0-4 defeat against AZ in the Johan Cruijff Shield.
Janssen is especially curious how Ajax will do this season. ''It’s all or nothing in Amsterdam. They have to win the championship and everything must give way for that. If it doesn’t work this season, then they will have a big problem in the long run. So this season everything has to fall into place,'' says the former midfielder.
The analyst is also speaking about the work of Jordi Cruijff as technical director in Amsterdam. ''You can say whatever you want about Cruijff, but he does it all in his own way. And I actually find that quite nice. It doesn't interest him a bit what other people think of it; he chooses his own path. And if it then goes wrong, then it will be in his way,'' Janssen continues.
PSV has, according to the former footballer, somewhat become 'the FC Bayern Munich of the Netherlands' and that’s why the former player—among other clubs—for instance with Vitesse hopes that this season there will be more tension at the top. ''They were just so much better than the rest that the league was already decided two months before the end. Maybe I’m hoping for that, too, that Ajax and Feyenoord will battle it out for the title this season. I’m rooting for PSV, don’t misunderstand me, but there should be some excitement again at the top of the Eredivisie,'' Janssen concludes.

0-4 tegen AZ in de Johan Cruijff Schaal en dan al praten over spannend bovenin, bruh 😂. PSV moet vooral leren van die valse start. Als ze snel herstellen dan is het wel degelijk "reuring" ja, maar dan door PSV die topteams op elkaar jaagt.
"Het is alles-of-niets in Amsterdam"... man, dat voelt als druk koken. Als we niet meteen gas geven, krijg je dezelfde discussie als vorig seizoen. Maar goed, Cruijff doet het op zijn manier, we gaan zien of die manier ons brengt.
Ik ben wel benieuwd naar Ajax dit seizoen, maar Feyenoord strijden om de titel klinkt als cap imo. PSV is nu al gewend aan die rol, en dan wil ik geen halfbakken competitie. Geef ons die 4e landstitel op rij, anders is het alsnog zonde van het seizoen. 🔥
Ajax moeten "alles op zijn plek vallen" en "kampioen worden", maar dat is precies de druk die Bosz-achtige projecten vaak kapot maakt. Jordi Cruijff kiest zijn eigen weg, oké, maar voetbal is ook resultaten. Jong PSV zou niet moeten willen dat de titelstrijd puur slaat op hun fouten.
tbh ik vind dat hij PSV wel heel lief in het midden houdt. "Ik gun het PSV" maar ondertussen hoopt hij op strijd tussen Ajax en Feyenoord. Als Feyenoord echt springt, kan dat PSV schelen, maar ik vertrouw Bosz en de selectie nog wel.
Die "FC Bayern van Nederland" vergelijking raakt wel. 4e landstitel op rij en dan meteen weer vroeg beslist, dat wil niemand. Ik snap dat hij spanning hoopt, al wil ik vooral dat Ajax uit die top wegblijft.

Theo Janssen zegt dat Ajax "alles-of-niets" is, maar ik zie juist dat Cruijff zijn eigen plan blijft pushen. Als dat faalt, dan ja, dan wordt het pijnlijk in Amsterdam. Voor PSV is het natuurlijk interessant zolang Ajax punten blijft laten liggen.
lol na die 0-4 bij AZ ga ik niet doen alsof PSV nu al klaar is. Maar goed, titelstrijd spannender zou wel lekker zijn. Wel eerst punten pakken in de competitie, anders is "reuring" snel voorbij.
"Begrijp me niet verkeerd" lol, goed zo Theo. i want that reuring bovenin, maar wel zonder dat Ajax straks weer een mid season instorting krijgt. Feyenoord en Ajax mogen pakken, zolang wij gewoon onze eigen lijn doortrekken. ❤️⚽
