Analyst gives tip to PSV: “Bring in a beast”
1 min readIt will not have escaped anyone that PSV last Saturday got off to a false start in the chase for the fourth consecutive national title in the Eredivisie. Peter Bosz’s team at home could only manage a 2-2 draw against Fortuna Sittard.
PSV seemed on course for three points via Noah Fernandez, but in the second minute of stoppage time it was Édouard Michut who smashed the ball behind goalkeeper Matej Kovar and thereby gave the team from Sittard their first point in the Philips Stadium since 2000.
Danny Buijs' team also went into halftime with a 0-1 lead. At PSV, Ryan Flamingo made an obvious mistake, and Ole Romeny knew how to make the most of it.
The draw and the antics in the defense have also not escaped former football coach Robert Maaskant. In a video item from Sportnieuws.nl, Maaskant says that PSV in the backline needs to look for a beast of a defender.
''When you make mistakes at moments like that, you get punished'', the analyst begins about Ryan Flamingo's mistake. ''And I really think, because PSV has already switched things up a number of times now in those central positions at the back. I really think PSV needs to get a beast in there. If they go far in either the Champions League or become champions again'', Maaskant continues.
After that, the name of Lutsharel Geertruida comes back into the spotlight again and, according to the analyst, Geertruida could be an ideal defender for PSV. ''Of course, he can play both as a right-back and as a centre-back. He can also play in multiple systems. He has already proven that once at Feyenoord. So yes, that could be him and we also know from PSV that they like to sign Dutch players to safeguard the culture a bit in Eindhoven. That people speak Dutch there. That always helps, of course'', said the former coach of, among others, Willem II and NAC Breda.

"een beest halen" klinkt lekker, en tbh we missen dat soort macho in de verdediging. Als Geertruida rechtsback en centraal kan, dan geeft dat Bosz tenminste keuzes in meerdere systemen. Maar alstie komt, moet PSV wel meteen beter zonder bal, want dit soort 2-2's gaan je Europees geld kosten. 💀🔥
Geertruida klinkt als een fit voor de clubcultuur, maar ik wil ook een echte leider in de verdediging. Dit seizoen hebben we te vaak dat Michut-momenten ontstaan omdat iemand net niet goed staat. 👀🔥
Geertruida roepen klinkt leuk, maar we doen nu ook alsof timing en discipline niet meetellen. Als je doorschuift en dan Flamingo een fout laat maken, helpt een nieuwe naam achterin niet vanzelf. Eerst dat verdedigende basisgedrag fixen, dan pas investeren, tbh. 🥶
Noah Fernandez bijna, Michut die in de stoppage meteen toeslaat... dat is pure kliniek van Fortuna. Maar achterin blijven we te vaak twijfelen, alsof die centrale rollen te licht gevuld zijn. Geertruida als "beest" is wel interessant, want hij is tenminste mobiel genoeg om fouten te compenseren.
2-2 thuis is gewoon pijnlijk, zeker na die voorsprong. Ryan Flamingo deed het weer, en dan krijg je meteen zo'n tik in de blessuretijd. Op het moment dat Maaskant zegt "een beest halen" voelt het ook echt als noodzaak.
"Een beest halen" klinkt lekker, maar breng eerst structuur. Tegen Fortuna liep het weer mis, vooral na de 0-1, en dan wordt het achterin elke keer gissen. Wel benieuwd of Bosz dan gaat terugschakelen naar een stabieler duo.
Tbh Maaskant is niet gek: als je al doorwisselt achterin, dan moet je iemand hebben die duels wint en meteen controle geeft. Geertruida als rechtsback of centraal zou wel logisch zijn, maar ik vraag me af of PSV dat niveau zomaar haalt.
2-2 thuis en dan in de blessuretijd nog kapot. smh. Flamingo die je meteen al ziet fout doen en Maaskant die het "beest" noemt... feels like we always need a panic-buy CB.
