Analyst enjoys PSV: “He also has that confidence”

One week ago, Ruben van Bommel made his debut for Oranje. Van Bommel delivered right away with a world-class assist for Cody Gakpo.

Thanks to this assist in stoppage time, a defeat was avoided in Xavi Hernandez's debut as national team coach. The Netherlands played to a 1-1 draw with Germany, and last Sunday they recorded their first win under the Spanish coach on their visit to Serbia (1-2).

There has recently been a lot said and written about Van Bommel's assist on Gakpo. Also record international Wesley Sneijder (134 caps) says he enjoyed the assist from the PSV player.

That tells Sneijder in the program Rondo on Ziggo Sport. ''Nice, fantastic. That you have it in your head, that's super. Then you're an advanced player. But the execution and the willingness to do it—he has that confidence as well. 'I give that ball and lay it down perfectly.' Normally, a player keeps running and goes through the middle or around the outside. But he sees the moment and dares to put it down'', begins the former midfielder.

Then the born Utrecht resident continues. ''That is trust, and he obviously has that. Sometimes the ball is also so positioned that you can’t do anything else but play with your outside foot. You see the moment happen and then he’s there like that, then you can’t do anything else. But then you still have to do it. Nine times out of ten, they then choose something else'', Sneijder said.
