Aad de Mos backs a fourth term as national team coach: “Can read a match well”
1 min readAad de Mos believes that Louis van Gaal would be a good choice to become the new national team coach of the Netherlands team. The former PSV coach says this in an interview with De Telegraaf.
The same newspaper reported Monday morning that Van Gaal himself would be open to speaking with the KNVB about replacing Ronald Koeman. The latter resigned after elimination against Morocco at the World Cup in North America.
According to De Mos, a return of Van Gaal would be a good idea since the born Hagenees LVG is in a higher position than most of the current generation of Dutch coaches. ''Putting players in the right positions is already difficult enough for most coaches. They cannot make decisions from the gut, but are too preoccupied with data. It is all preprogrammed and chewed over'', says the former PSV coach emphatically to the national newspaper.
In doing so, the analyst also points to Ronald Koeman. ''Even Ronald Koeman will do all sorts of different things during a World Cup that nobody understands. The players don't, the media doesn't and the fans don't. Van Gaal will never do that. Louis can read a match well,'' De Mos said.

De Mos also thinks that Van Gaal is capable of saying goodbye to a few long-serving players and selecting up-and-coming talent. ''If they break through this season, at least. Then I think of Kees Smit and Sven Mijnans and other young players at AZ, Ajax, Feyenoord and FC Twente'', the former coach says.
Among other things, it could be possible to say goodbye to Memphis Depay and Virgil van Dijk. ''I don't think those are hard decisions, but fair decisions. Louis demands a lot of himself. You can see that again now, despite the fact that he has had health problems. And he also demands that of his staff, players and the KNVB. Everything to put the Netherlands back on the map'', says De Mos.
Also analyst and former Oranje international Ronald de Boer would welcome a return by his former coach and, in doing so, points to Peter Bosz’s cancellation. ''Now that such a top coach has become available, Nigel (de Jong, ed.) has to speak with him. Louis understands the game, has experience at major tournaments, and knows the dynamics of a players’ group. For me, he is now the dream candidate. And after Peter Bosz, Arne Slot, Erik ten Hag and Pep Guardiola fell by the wayside for sure not a fourth or fifth choice, because no one knew he wanted to make a comeback. Now, though,'' said De Boer.
