Xavi dragged through the mud after remark about Ajax - PSV: 'A child's hand is quickly filled'

Last Monday, Oranje national team coach Xavi Hernandez held a press conference. In it, Xavi also commented on the Ajax - PSV match (1-3).

The Spaniard said he had enjoyed the match. The national coach even described the game on 5 September last as a Champions League-level match.

Xavi is also positive about the level of the Eredivisie. ''The standard is good. I watched the match between PSV and Ajax and it was at an excellent level. I thought it was at Champions League level. In a few years, the Dutch clubs will once again be able to compete for real in Europe,'' the national team coach said on Monday at the press conference, as quoted by Voetbal International.

These statements cause amazement for journalist Valentijn Driessen of De Telegraaf. Driessen says so in the podcast Kick-Off of that same publication.

''A child's hand is quickly filled. I don't know if it was a week later, but PSV just can't manage to win against Shakhtar Donetsk. Feyenoord is simply being outplayed by FC Barcelona. At the moment, it's simply not Champions League level at the moment in the Netherlands'', the journalist begins.

The defeat of Feyenoord in Barcelona (5-1) is seen by the reporter as an ideal example of where, according to him, the Eredivisie stands. ''You’ve just been led there to the slaughterhouse and for all you know it could be 8-1, 9-1 there as well'', according to Driessen.
