Van Bommel Situation | Kieft sees bizarre things and goes in hard

1 min read

In recent days, a lot has already been said and written about Ruben van Bommel’s actions toward Aaron Bouwman last Saturday during Ajax - PSV (1-3). Van Bommel was punished by referee Sander van der Eijk with a yellow card, and that is baffling to many people.

Many analysts and fans in fact believe that the PSV player should have been penalized with a red card. However, there are also a few analysts who support Van Bommel, including Johan Derksen and Willem van Hanegem.

So Derksen is of the opinion that it was not a foul. ''All of the Netherlands is calling it a red card. I even saw terms like ‘murder attack’. It was talked about with indignation and everyone was outraged, but I didn’t even think it was a yellow card. It was a typical collision that occurs in a contact sport. Both players were focused on the ball and went for it intentionally. They couldn’t avoid each other anymore, and no one was to blame for that. It was awful to see, but you really can’t blame Van Bommel for it, because he didn’t see that player at all. It was very sad and it looked very bad, but it was not a foul. It was an accidental collision'', De Snor said on his own podcast Groeten uit Grolloo.

In addition, the ringleader of Today Inside is not speaking about the smear campaign that has arisen in the Dutch media against Van Bommel, and Derksen finds support for it from former PSV striker Wim Kieft. Kieft believes that the PSV player is being dealt with far, far too harshly in the Dutch media.

The former striker lets it be known in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. ''That whole Van Bommel. I’d still like to say something about it. The total outrage that’s been building in the Netherlands. I thought it was absolutely wild what that guy did. It’s reckless and just red. But doesn’t it all get a bit too much, boys?'', says Kieft.

Then René van der Gijp chimes in. ''When he knew he wasn’t going to make it, he pushed on a bit more,'' Van der Gijp says, after which Kieft replies: ''Of course it’s a red card. But the total outrage that has now arisen in the Netherlands. I really think that.''

Subsequently, Gijp brings up that Van Bommel was upset. ''I could tell he was bothered by it after the match. Zlatan Ibrahimovic wasn't. He was proud of it'', the Dordrecht analyst says, after which agent Rob Jansen joins the discussion: ''It's important how he deals with it. And the club PSV outwardly. His father and Bert van Marwijk can play a big role in that'', Jansen adds.

"Toen hij wist dat hij het niet ging halen, zette hij nog aan" is the line that matters. If that is true, then yellow is too soft and PSV should back Van Bommel, but also be clear about accountability. 🔥⚽

KieftJansenEgmondGijp said "het is onbesuisd en gewoon rood" and ngl that is the only honest part. Yet the outrage in NL is getting cartoonish, bruh, some people act like it was intentional.

Derksen calling it "geen gele kaart" is wild. If everyone saw "moordaanslag" terms, then how is it not at least a red-worthy moment? Still, the media hysteria is also real.

tbh i snap why Van Bommel got criticized, that looked nasty. But Derksen saying it was just a contact collision feels like an excuse to me.
