Strong confrontation with Valentijn Driessen on camera

1 min read

They actually don’t want to know anything about each other. They actually don’t want anything to do with each other...

But still, they had dealings with each other, Valentijn Driessen and Virgil van Dijk. The captain of the Netherlands national team and the football editor of De Telegraaf couldn’t get around each other last week, but both were done with each other. The images spoke for themselves; so did the remarks.

It turned out to be national entertainment, the press conference of the captain of the Netherlands national team, which last summer in the United States finally dropped below the mark in various matches. Based on those matches, you would almost hope that Van Dijk no longer plays for Oranje and announces that he is going to stop himself.

Van Dijk allowed himself to be easily outplayed by Ueda against Japan; Van Dijk let himself be played multiple times by Saibari, who, as a deep-lying striker against the Netherlands national team with five defenders, even made Oranje look even worse. And right there, Valentijn Driessen wanted to know more. Because how did Van Dijk himself actually feel about how things went last summer...

The captain of Oranje didn’t want to say anything about that. After all, it was a team performance, he said with a face threatening with storm. Driessen responded to that again because he thought Van Dijk looked very grumpy. In short, it was an unsettled affair, but it was great television.

Driessen was in the firm confrontation with Van Dijk clearly looking for answers to questions about why Van Dijk had performed so poorly in the United States. Deep-running striker Saibair played 120 minutes in a row freely around between five defenders and made Van Dijk look very bad a few times. The former PSV player saw Van Dijk hopelessly fail in the 89th minute, nailed to the ground, only to watch as the Moroccans managed to make it 1-1...
