PSV’ers criticized: “Didn’t deliver at all”
1 min readAfter falling behind 2-0, the Netherlands played to a 2-2 draw against Greece last Thursday. Guus Til and Ruben van Bommel started in the starting lineup.
Midway through, the PSV players were genuinely replaced by Tijani Reijnders and Noa Lang. In the end, Reijnders managed to prevent a defeat by making it 2-2 in the 89th minute after Oranje had clawed back in the match through Virgil van Dijk.
That is also something former footballer Arie Haan has not missed, and Haan is particularly critical of Til and Van Bommel. The former footballer lets it be known in De Telegraaf, and both PSV players therefore get a 5 as a grade.
According to Haan, Til also got in the way of Van Bommel on many occasions during the match in Thessaloniki. ''Til covers a lot of ground, but he never really came to grips with it. He should play close to the striker, because he is dangerous in behind. But now he took every ball on the left side and got in the way of Ruben van Bommel. As a result, there was absolutely no pressure in the center, because striker Mexx Meerdink ended up alone against two giants'', says the former pro.
After that, the attention turns to Van Bommel, who made his debut last Thursday and immediately did well, producing a world-class assist for Cody Gakpo. Against Serbia, the winger was introduced early last Sunday for the injured Gakpo and made a good impression then as well.
Against Greece, Van Bommel made his debut in the starting lineup, but he was considerably worse and also conceded Greece’s 2-0 just before halftime after a sloppy pass. ''In the first twenty minutes he didn’t really participate; after that he had three actions and he provided the unintended assist for the second Greek goal. This was not the Van Bommel from 'Germany' and 'Serbia'. He just has to focus on football—let all those duels be handled by others,'' concludes Haan.

Haan zegt ook dat Van Bommel zich moet concentreren op voetbal en niet al die duels. Als je dan kijkt naar de onbedoelde assist op het tweede doelpunt, dan is dat precies het punt. Verdedigend staan ze dan ineens te ver uit elkaar. 🙄
Arie Haan is streng, maar hij raakt wel een punt. De eerste twintig minuten deed Van Bommel niet mee, en daarna kwamen er maar drie acties. Als hij wil groeien, moet hij in de basis meer impact hebben, niet alleen eindigen met wissel-effecten. 💯
"Kwam totaal niet uit de verf" is precies het gevoel. Van Bommel start ook niet lekker, en die slordige pass vlak voor rust ... zonde. Fr, ik hoop dat hij snel terugkomt naar die Servie-vibe, want die assist voor Gakpo was top. ⚽🔥
Til aannemen op links en dan Ruben in de weg, dat is gewoon een systeemprobleem. Als je nummer 10/wing haalt, dan wil je hem toch tussen linies. Anders krijg je geen centrumdruk en ja hoor, Mexx alleen tegen reuzen. 🤬
Tbh Van Bommel had die pass vlak voor rust echt niet mogen geven. Je ziet dan meteen dat hij nog moet groeien in basisrollen, maar meteen 5 geven is ook wel lekker makkelijk zo na 2-2... 🔥
"Kwam totaal niet uit de verf" is keihard, maar de omschrijving over geen druk in het centrum en Meerdink die tegen twee reuzen stond, dat voelt wel als waarheid. Reijnders en Lang maakten het verschil na rust.
Reijnders redt het in de 89e, maar dat maakt Til en Van Bommel niet ineens goed. Die "veelvuldig in de weg" klinkt echt als wat je zag: Meerdink alleen tegen twee. 👀
Til 'loopt wel een hoop' maar je ziet het nut niet altijd, blijkbaar. Als hij elke bal op links pakt en Ruben in de weg loopt, dan klopt je hele pressing plaatje niet... 👀
5 voor Til en Van Bommel vind ik echt zuur, maar ik snap de kritiek wel. Die eerste helft tegen Griekenland was echt lastig om doorheen te kijken, zeker als je druk nodig hebt.
