“Pleaser” Danny Makkelie found it all quite fine; even De Telegraaf takes a jab at it
1 min readA number of special moments observed by De Telegraaf ensure that the PSV - Sparta match and the result of this game come to be seen in a different light once again.
Was PSV - Sparta actually finished off in a kind of fantasy lineup? You could almost say that. Especially after the match between the two clubs, because Sven Mijnans didn’t beat around the bush when it came to the starting lineup.
"PSV’s Sven Mijnans dismisses the suggestion that he, as a striker, scored three times against Sparta. "Attacking we played with three tens. Guus on the right, me in the middle and Paul Wanner in the middle. In that you have to be incredibly dynamic and move around among each other. I did find that really enjoyable", a message from Jeroen Kapteijns on X said, observed in the press area of the Philips Stadium.
Captain also noted another remarkable fact, as evidenced by the message below on X about the matches that Peter Bosz's squad has, to date, managed to carry out in the Eredivisie.

"A bizarre statistic: against Sparta it was already the sixth time in eight matches this season that PSV fell behind. Only against Ajax and Excelsior was that not the case. In three cases, PSV managed to turn it around, against FC Groningen (5-1), FC Utrecht (1-6) and Sparta (4-1). Against Fortuna Sittard (2-2) and Shakhtar Donetsk (1-1) it didn’t quite work out, and against AZ not at all (0-4 home defeat", the PSV watcher for De Telegraaf analyzed.
Finally, a well-deserved conclusion about the often-failing Danny Makkelie. The pleaser, as Valentijn Driessen sometimes called the referee from Dordrecht in the past, by far among Dutch referees, again allowed all kinds of things to go unpunished, particularly in Sparta’s penalty area. Why? Because Makkelie simply does not have the character to act decisively when situations call for it.

The Telegraaf watcher is spot on, PSV fell behind 6 times in 8, and still won 3. That said, if you keep needing comebacks, it's not just tactics, it's also risk management. And Danny Makkelie being 'a pleaser' in the box is not the kind of control you want.
