Morning newspapers drag PSV through the mud
1 min readPSV has had a poor start to the 2026/2027 Eredivisie season, drawing 2-2 at home in the Philips Stadium against Fortuna Sittard. As a result, the team coached by Peter Bosz for the first time since his appointment failed to win the opening match of the competition.
Even in the morning newspapers, PSV has to take the hit and in doing so, it is particularly the management that is pointed to. ''PSV management gambles this summer, but it's already turning out badly'', is the headline in Eindhovens Dagblad.
''One swallow does not make a summer and a few bouts of night frost do not make a winter. But still. Again, PSV had to take a hit against Fortuna Sittard (2-2). How could that suddenly be? The PSV of Saturday was a joke compared with the PSV that, in the first season under Bosz, swept the floor with virtually every team'', the ED writes further.
Even in the back pages, the local newspaper reports problems. ''Of course, that had to do with the opponent on Saturday, who defended themselves in an ultra-defensive way and thereby laid down a blueprint for other teams. But what PSV itself showed was toothless and very weak in possession. An opponent that is not all that impressive could still become dangerous. The actions of PSV create the impression that last summer too much confidence was placed that everything would sort itself out in the early stages of the 2026-2027 football season. This summer, the board gambled on a late defensive reinforcement, and that has not worked out well at the start of this season'', according to the ED.

De Telegraaf even anticipates serious problems for PSV. ''Peter Bosz was in recent years the Midas King of PSV. Everything he touched turned to gold. Now it’s different. PSV has started the season dramatically. The tinkering against Fortuna once again underlined that PSV is by no means at the required level to be competitive in the Champions League and to dominate in the Eredivisie'', according to De Telegraaf.
De Volkskrant talks about a dramatic start to the competition. ''The bad mood dripped from Peter Bosz’s face on Saturday evening. The league title, nothing more and nothing less, is what the Eindhoven supporters demand of PSV this season. After three consecutive championships, the bar is set high for the spoiled public. But in the pursuit of ‘four in a row’, PSV currently seems in no way like the football machine of the recent past'', concludes De Volkskrant.

Eens. If the manager trusts the same 10-15 minute window to turn games, we have to make those moments count, not just keep it safe. Bro do we really want another season of "almost"?
🔥 Defending set-pieces are still our weak spot though. I want to see sharper zoning and faster second-ball reactions, because that is where we keep bleeding points.
"Inside PSV" always makes it sound simple, but the balance is the key. If the winger tucks in too early, the fullback has nobody to pass to and it gets messy in transition. 👀
Wie kijkt mee? 🤡
The big thing for me is the full-back positioning. If they push too high, the midfield gaps show instantly, and opponents will just run at the space. But when the press hits together, it looks scary in a good way 👀🔥
That pressing trigger was pretty clear tbh. When the opposition build-up goes to the fullback, PSV should jump quicker, not wait half a second more.
If PSV really want to control games like that, they need to stop giving cheap turnovers in midfield. Zuur that we are always one bad touch away from a counter.
If PSV really want to play that more direct build-up, they need to stop forcing it into the half-spaces too early. Tillman and Veerman have to be more patient on the ball, otherwise it turns into easy counters for the opponent. Still tho, the intensity looked right.
