Hugo Borst takes aim at Feyenoord and points to an ex-PSV player: “He was fantastic last season.”
1 min readAfter having been under contract for five seasons at PSV, Joël Drommel decided to return to FC Twente this transfer summer. With the Tukkers, Drommel was under the bar on Sunday evening during the away match at newly promoted SC Cambuur, which was won (1-4), and the goalkeeper was also good for an assist on Wout Weghorst’s 0-2.
Last season, the goalkeeper was loaned by PSV to Sparta Rotterdam due to the arrival of Matej Kovar and Nick Olij. At Sparta, the former PSV player grew into an important link, and in addition Drommel last season was the least frequently breached stopper in the Eredivisie.
That was also not missed by columnist and at the same time Sparta supporter Hugo Borst. According to Borst, Feyenoord therefore also made an enormous mistake by not contacting PSV.
That writes the journalist in his column for Algemeen Dagblad. In doing so, the Sparta supporter also points to Drommel's price tag.
''Joël Drommel was to be picked up for just six million at PSV. Last season he was fantastic at Sparta. The least-used goalkeeper of the Eredivisie is considerably better than Tjark Ernst, who is the first-choice goalkeeper at De Kuip. What possessed Feyenoord to let the opportunity of Drommel slip away?'', Borst said.
In Rotterdam-South, they had to look for a new goalkeeper due to the departure of Timon Wellenreuther. The Rotterdamers subsequently took over the German keeper Tjark Ernst from Hertha BSC and is therefore now the first-choice goalkeeper at De Kuip under coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Brengt me wel terug naar het idee dat wij vaak keepers goed ontwikkelen, en dan gaan anderen er mee aan de haal. Als Borst zegt dat Drommel beter is dan Ernst, tja... dan snap ik de frustratie. Wout Weghorst doel 0-2 en Drommel die assist... peak eredivisie vibes. 😅
Eens. 🔥 Borst calling out Feyenoord is music to my ears. "Wat bezielde Feyenoord" is exactly the question. Ernst in the Kuip after missing out on an option like Drommel is not the smartest move, thats for sure.
Six ton bij PSV voor Drommel, en dan nu in Rotterdam met Tjark Ernst beginnen... imo is dat gewoon mid tot cap als je het vergelijkt. Drommel was vorig seizoen de minst gepasseerde, dat is geen toeval. 🔥
The assist for Weghorst, clean. Drommel seems to fit modern keeper play way better than the names Feyenoord went for. If he was already peak at Sparta and stayed composed, imo PSV didn't lose him, Feyenoord mismanaged the opportunity. Kovar and Olij coming in and he still performs, thats a good sign.
"Hij was vorig seizoen fantastisch" klopt, maar vraag me af of Feyenoord daar zelf scouts op had of dat ze gewoon te laat waren. Tjark Ernst kan natuurlijk ook stappen maken, maar dit voelt als een gemiste zekerheid.
"Hij was vorig seizoen fantastisch bij Sparta" ... and still somehow it's never simple at Feyenoord. But tbh, saying he is better than Ernst is only one side of the story. Ernst has the bigger club-pressure and maybe just needs games, though. If Drommel was available that cheap, bruh, that decision hurts.
Drommel was echt goated bij Sparta vorig seizoen, en die assist van hem tegen Cambuur laat ook zien dat ie durft mee te voetballen. 👀 Als Feyenoord hem liet lopen dan is dat wel zonde.
Joël Drommel voor 600k was echt een steal, en als hij vorig seizoen "minst gepasseerd" was, dan snap ik die Borst rage wel. Feyenoord heeft nu Ernst als eerste keeper en dat voelt gewoon als risico pakken. Volgends mij is dit gewoon een verkeerde scouting/underestimation van Twente/PSV-career paths.
