Harry Vermeegen points to PSV and dismisses the KNVB: “It was actually in the waiting room.”

1 min read

Former presenter and commentator Harry Vermeegen is not happy with the current state of affairs at the KNVB in the search for a new national team coach. Vermeegen makes this clear without a doubt in his daily vlog on his own YouTube channel.

On 30 June, when the Netherlands were eliminated from the World Cup by Morocco, Ronald Koeman stepped down as national team coach. Now, more than a month later, there is still a lot of uncertainty about who will become the new head coach of the Netherlands national team.

That has also been noticed by Vermeegen and speaking from Spain, the former journalist therefore also voices his displeasure about the way the KNVB is acting. ''Well, for months and months they have been looking for a new national team coach. They naturally knew long ago that Koeman wouldn’t carry on. No, that was already known'', the 76-year-old Vermeegen says in his own vlog.

Then the former presenter goes deeper into the candidates who had withdrawn and also mentions Peter Bosz. ''Peter Bosz was actually in the waiting room. He already had Nieuwe Revu and Panorama on his lap, waiting for the KNVB to call. But, well, they didn't. They didn't make any contact and he signed with PSV. Off goes Peter Bosz!'', scolds Vermeegen.

Then Erik ten Hag comes along. ''They could have reached out to them already. Months ago. From: 'Listen. We are thinking about it that when Koeman leaves, then we want you. So don’t go and do anything for now. You are our man.' No, nothing like that at all! And off goes Ten Hag to sign with Twente and he says: 'I am not available any further' and off goes Ten Hag!'', continues the former journalist.

Then Vermeegen names Arne Slot. ''Then everyone thought: he will of course get it. And that’s exactly what they therefore also fail to pull off. Unbelievable! Nonsense about money. I mean, I’m a bit involved with Arne Slot, or whether he wants it for just two years—then you simply do two years. None of that!'', the former presenter continues.

Then the KNVB is also heavily targeted. ''So three top coaches, with their noses pushed past the KNVB for the most important institution in the Netherlands: the Netherlands national team. Then you fail so terribly as the board of the KNVB. And whether that’s Nigel de Jong or Seedorf or that lady Van Leeuwen, I couldn’t care less? They should take this to heart and they should think to themselves: 'Isn’t it time to leave?'''

Also the choice between whether Louis van Gaal or Michael Reiziger can’t please Vermeegen either. ''And now we have to choose between Louis van Gaal, what misery. That has been, that’s what we’ve had, or Michael Reiziger. How do you find that?! And that’s then the choice. Because you’ve been messing around so terribly'', the former journalist concludes his vlog.

KNVB management is echt peak incompetence.

KNVB had gewoon sneller moeten schakelen.
