FC Utrecht gets a drubbing from ESPN analyst after a suspension against PSV: 'That’s laughable'
1 min readAfter the 1-6 defeat at home against PSV, FC Utrecht has managed only one point in four matches after four games under the new coach Anthony Correia. Despite a 1-0 lead, the Domstedelingen failed to make an impression against Peter Bosz’s side, although it took quite a while before PSV eventually increased the score.
In This Was the Weekend on sports channel ESPN, analyst Kenneth Perez is quite harsh about the Utrechters. The former midfielder believes it is sad to watch FC Utrecht.
''It's just really pathetic to look at Utrecht. I believe Correia is a good coach, but the players just really don't know what they should do'', says the Dane firmly.
After that, Perez goes deeper into what’s wrong with FC Utrecht. ''You have absolutely no interplay and cohesion. It looks as if they’re all walking around with a head full of assignments and have to do things they haven’t often done. For example, building up—that’s laughable,'' continues the analyst.
FC Utrecht's setup can also draw a lot of criticism. "Nobody moves relative to one another. It could have been much worse. I thought: please stop that. After seventeen minutes they started playing long balls to Dani de Wit; that didn't help, but then you don't make it so easy for PSV. They were offensively powerless, defensively disastrous, and the midfield had absolutely no pressure on the opponent. They probably work hard, but it has very little to do with a top-six contender," Perez said.
Clubmate Karim El Ahmadi shares the words of the Deen. ''With a club like SC Telstar, you can keep going with this for longer. But at FC Utrecht there is a different kind of pressure, and you can see that also with the fans. Players will therefore show different behavior, because that pressure is simply greater. I had that myself at FC Twente. Everyone seemed to be able to stand there freely. Then I joined Feyenoord and it felt as if I couldn’t do anything with it at all,'' concludes El Ahmadi.

ngl the moment Utrecht started long balls on Dani de Wit, it was game over. If nobody moves for each other, you kill your own tempo and let Bosz's pressing do the rest. Even if they work hard, you need structure, not just effort.
Utrecht fans die druk voelen, snap ik, maar je moet dan wel voetballend reageren. Dit was niet alleen slecht, het was ook passief, vooral in de duels en tweede bal. Deze PSV-uitbraken waren echt peak 👀🔥
"Het is gewoon echt zielig om naar Utrecht te kijken." Brutaal, maar eerlijk... Als je middenveld geen druk geeft, krijg je zo'n avond gewoon ingemaakt. Correia kan tactisch willen, maar dit oogt als geen collectief plan.

Dat stukje over geen samenspel en niemand die beweegt is zo raak. Als je na 17 minuten lange ballen op Dani de Wit speelt, maak je Bosz en PSV meteen te makkelijk.
1-6 en dan toch weer "opbouw is om te lachen"... Perez had gelijk. Utrecht zag er echt verdwaasd uit, alsof niemand het spel had afgestemd.
i mean, 1-6 at home and then only 1 point in 4 under Correia is grim. The lack of movement and pressure Perez mentioned is exactly why PSV felt so comfortable. Defenders just kept receiving the ball facing the wrong direction.
That "opbouwen... dat is om te lachen" hits different lol. Utrecht had a 1-0 lead and still looked clueless, like zero patterns all game. Bosz made it look way too easy.
