FC Twente - PSV | No Weghorst, journalist lashes out at Van Nistelrooij
1 min readFC Twente - PSV in Enschede. It lives on there, but at the same time people fear the arrival of the national champions.
And that fear is justified, as simple as that. Wout Weghorst may have every confidence that PSV will be beaten, but realistically that is not something to call it. The striker of the Tukkers also had to take a setback, because there is no longer an Orange shirt to pull on in the coming weeks.
Xavi decided otherwise and so Weghorst is annoyed. In his wake, FC Twente watcher and also journalist Leon ten Voorde is annoyed as well. The journalist often comes out swinging, and this time he doesn’t hold back either,
The main role player himself has for the first time reacted to the absence from the final selection of the Dutch national team, but the journalist from Tubantia is going one step further. The striker from FC Twente saw the choice of national coach Xavi Hernández coming to some extent, but keeps the door to Oranje open. That reflects well on the striker from the Tukkers.

The fact that Weghorst would not be included in the squad was not a major surprise for him. "I already had that feeling a bit. The preliminary selection was announced at clubs about three weeks ago and I knew I wasn’t in it", says Weghorst in an interview with the outlet Oost. "Then, in the last few weeks, I tried everything I could to get in. But no, I’m not in it."
The Twente striker understands the choice of Xavi, that, then again, yes. "You get older, 34. New national team coach, perhaps a new crop. At the World Cup I did have the feeling that it could be my last chance. You never know in football, now I’m not in it, we’ll see about the future."
Weghorst is therefore not called up and that is disappointing. "You should never have too much in the way of expectations, but I haven't heard anything, no. I'll never take it for granted. It is the greatest pride to play for your country. I know I was at my best. If they now choose to fill it in differently, that is their right. I will be available at all times for the Netherlands national team."
"Maybe I’ll be missed very badly again soon, and maybe not at all. Then it’s a good sign that things are going very well with our country. And that we may be very successful in the future", the 34-year-old striker said about his international career, which seems to be coming to an end. And journalist Ten Voorde, for his part, does have something to say about that, judging by his post on X about the way....
Ook Wout Weghorst kreeg na 53 interlands geen belletje..Daar had Van Nistelrooij best even tijd voor gehad, lijkt me.

Meanwhile, the journalist from Twente also notes that it has been far too long since PSV was beaten by FC Twente. The Twente fans then respond with a witty but realistic take.
Sort of become an anxiety killer. Very often Twente takes the lead against PSV, especially at home. Even more often PSV then draws level, and ultimately wins. Ajax and Feyenoord suit Twente better. Feeling-wise, too, it’s the team against which it goes wrong for Twente in the final minutes. But that could just be a feeling.

I get Twente fans with the weird confidence, but if Weghorst says "I'm not in it, we'll see about the future", then he is still dangerous. PSV midfield has to keep him off the ball and stop those early chances, otherwise we will hear that "Ajax and Feyenoord suit Twente better" talk all night... again.
That Ten Voorde jab about PSV being beaten "far too long ago" is pure bait, but he isnt wrong. Twente scoring first vs PSV at home is basically a pattern, then PSV adjusts and it turns into a draw or even a win. Curious how PSV manage the final minutes again.
No Weghorst called up and PSV still has to go to Enschede, that journalist is acting like it is already over 😂. Also that "anxiety killer" line is funny but tbh PSV always steals something back after Twente get the lead.
