De Telegraaf attacks Van Nistelrooij: “Advocated for five defenders”

The tournament was not a great success for the Netherlands national team. Oranje advanced as group winners to the round of 16, in which Morocco was too strong after a penalty shootout.
Afterwards, there was a lot of criticism in the country about the fact that Koeman decided to play against the Moroccan national team with five defenders. Journalist Mike Verweij from De Telegraaf shares in the podcast Kick-off of the same outlet a remarkable story in which the name of Van Nistelrooij is mentioned.
According to Verweij, the former PSV player, together with captain Virgil van Dijk, was the one who proposed to overturn the system against the Atlas Lions. Moreover, the journalist suggests that Van Nistelrooy owes his role as assistant national team coach solely to the fact that the former top striker has the same agent as Nigel de Jong, technical director of the KNVB.
''Nigel de Jong is obviously international enough, but then again, a lightweight. You could also choose someone who doesn’t have the same agent. There’s nothing to blame that agent for putting forward Ruud van Nistelrooij, but that is still very strange'', the reporter says.
Then Verweij brings up the career of the coach Van Nistelrooij. ''Normally, based on what Van Nistelrooij achieved with the Netherlands national team under Guus Hiddink and Danny Blind, he would not have been selected for the 2016 European Championship. The 2021 European Championship was not a success under Frank de Boer,'' says the journalist.
Then the match Netherlands - Morocco comes up. ''First of all, Ronald Koeman is in charge of the lineup, but Virgil van Dijk and Ruud van Nistelrooij have argued for five defenders against Morocco. Their input at the World Cup is what led to the elimination of the Netherlands. Nigel de Jong knows that and yet chooses it anyway, probably because he has the same sports agent, for Van Nistelrooij'', Verweij said.

Lmao dit gaat echt richting complot. Volgens De Telegraaf is Van Nistelrooij de reden van die uitschakeling... terwijl Marokko gewoon sterker was in de strafschoppen. Toch wel een bizar verhaal als Nigel de Jong inderdaad dezelfde zaakwaarnemer gebruikt, dat voelt als een clownshow 😅🤡
ik kijk dit soort discussies altijd met een PSV-oog: op papier is het slim, maar in de praktijk wordt je dan te voorspelbaar. Als Van Nistelrooij echt heeft voorgesteld om het systeem om te gooien, dan moet je dat ook durven uitleggen en verdedigen. Nu is het vooral rook en achterdocht.
Wat mij stoort: ze gebruiken zijn CV bij Oranje als strafverhaal. ''Normaal gesproken ... niet geplaatst voor het EK 2016'' ja hallo, maar dat was toch een andere context met Hiddink en Blind? En dan EK 2021 met De Boer... prima, maar dat zegt nog niks over een keuze in één wedstrijd. Virgil en Ruud zijn targets gemaakt.
Dit is echt peak De Telegraaf. Van Nistelrooij linksom of rechtsom, het voetbal was gewoon ondermaats. ''zijn inbreng ... heeft geleid tot de uitschakeling'' is natuurlijk onzin, maar wel catchy 😂
ngl, Van Nistelrooij als ex-PSV'er erbij is pijnlijk, maar dit verhaal ruikt ook naar sensatie. Als hij echt koos voor vijf achterin, waarom heeft het dan geen rendement opgeleverd in die wedstrijd? En die zaakwaarnemer-lijn met Nigel de Jong... bruh, dat is wel erg toevallig.
''Gepleit voor vijf verdedigers'' klinkt alsof iedereen ineens medeplichtig is. Ik snap de frustratie, maar op basis van één systeemkeuze ga je niet iemands hele rol afrekenen. Bovendien had PSV-ruud toch vooral ervaring nodig met defensieve organisatie, niet om te slopen.
Vijf verdedigers tegen Marokko was gewoon te laf, en nu gaat De Telegraaf ook nog Van Nistelrooij erbij halen. Tbh die technische staf is niet heilig, maar ik vraag me vooral af wat er achter de schermen echt is afgesproken. Als Koeman echt de keuze maakt dan is dit wel een hoop gezichtsverlies voor niemand minder dan Nigel de Jong.
"Gepleit voor vijf verdedigers" ja leuk, maar Koeman zette het ook neer. Als je met de bal geen duels wint, dan helpt een extra verdediger je niet, tbh. En dan komt Nigel de Jong er ook nog bij... irritant overdreven, ngl.
Wat een onzin verhaal, maar ik snap wel de frustratie. Met vijf verdedigers moet je nog steeds je afspraken kloppend hebben, niet alleen het systeem. Van Nistelrooij wordt hier wel heel makkelijk tot zondebok gemaakt.
