Bishop out of frustration over arbitration: “Apparently, that is not the case.”

1 min read

PSV won at home on Sunday evening with a 4-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam and thereby claimed top spot on goal difference, overtaking AZ, the team coached by Peter Bosz. On Friday evening, the Alkmaar side in fact failed to get beyond a 1-1 draw at home against newly promoted Willem II, and the team from Leeroy Echteld thus dropped the first points of the season.

After the match against Sparta, Armando Obispo was not happy with the refereeing of referee Danny Makkelie. Obispo says this to ESPN after the game.

At some corners for PSV, the defender was held so firmly, but referee Makkelie refused on several occasions to intervene. This to the annoyance of the PSV player.

''The referees came to see us at the start of the season. They said that if a defender is only focused on the man, does not look at the ball and he holds on, then it is a penalty. But apparently that is not the case,'' says Obispo.

Halfway through the match, the defender then spoke with the referee on duty. ''They come at us with a whole presentation and point out certain things. Then it’s also important that it is carried out that way,'' continues the PSV player.

The coach felt that holding onto the edge was the case. ''Of course you sometimes grab a shirt, but I thought it was really right on the edge today. I do think that, as they indicated, if someone is just actually only busy with the man and doesn't even have an eye for the ball anymore, then it just has to be a penalty'', as the defender sees it.

Finally, the PSV player looks back on the match with the Rotterdammers and, above all, the goal conceded. ''It has to be better, but I'm happy with the win. I'd rather win 4-1 than draw 0-0'', said Obispo.

"Inside" works best when the numbers are right. If the 10 keeps arriving between the lines and the 9 drops for the second ball, then yeah we can cook. But if the timing is off, it turns into possession for possession. 👀

I think the biggest key is the press. If the front line triggers properly, our defenders look way more comfortable on the ball. If not, it will be chaos again... and we all know how that ends. 💀

"tactical identity" is fine, but i want goals. If the striker is not getting in behind early, this turns into possession with no edge. 🤡

Im ngl, i think they overhype the wing switches. When the fullback steps in and the winger cuts inside, the space behind gets exposed way too often. PSV need better coordination, not just pretty buildup. 💀

Tbh i hope the article is right about the midfield balance, because last matches we looked one pass away from losing the ball. With him starting, we can finally control the tempo and not panic in transition. 🔥

Tbh this article reads like PSV finally has a clear plan. If that midfield is actually set to press from the first whistle, no excuses anymore... just dont let it turn into chaos after 60 mins. 🔥

If PSV are really doubling on their wing, then the fullbacks better not get caught high. Otherwise they just invite counterattacks. 👀
