Ajax player pulled out of the mud during a duel with PSV: “You can clearly see that this man can’t do anything at all.”
1 min readAfter the match Ajax - PSV (1-3), it was really not much about the match itself. The foul by PSV player Ruben van Bommel on Ajax player Aaron Bouwman was, afterwards, the biggest topic of conversation among analysts and fans.
Yet during the duel, Ajax striker Marcos Leonardo was also mentioned, who came on in the second half on behalf of the Amsterdammers. Leonardo arrived in Amsterdam for twenty million euros and is therefore Jordi Cruijff’s most expensive signing.
Presenters Wilfred Genee and former footballer Andy van der Meijde understand very little of it. Both men say so during a livestream on Van der Meijde's YouTube channel.
''He can’t do anything at all. It’s baffling that you sign a player like that. At that age, you definitely don’t go playing football in the desert, right? That can’t be right at all,'' Genee says about the Brazilian.
Against PSV too, the striker failed to convince. ''You can see that this man can’t do anything at all. The moment he came onto the pitch, everything fell apart. I really think it was a bad purchase,'' said the presenter.
Van der Meijde agrees with Genee. ''He really can’t do anything. This is a panic buy. Just like that, twenty million: buy a striker. Tolu just has to keep his place. The fact that Leonardo got in is really absurd,'' said the former footballer.

Eens. Als aanvaller wordt je afgerekend op momenten, en tegen PSV stond hij niet. Genee dat hij "helemaal niks" kan, klinkt wreed maar ngl, op het veld zag je weinig. 🤡
ngl, Van der Meijde heeft wel een punt: je zet geen spits neer voor 20 miljoen als je daarna ineens moet hopen dat het vanzelf komt. Die opbouw naar "Tolu moet gewoon blijven staan" klinkt simpel, maar het klopt als je ziet wat Leonardo tegen PSV deed.
Ruben van Bommel die Bouwman pakt krijgt heel de spotlight, maar Leonardo erbij maakt het natuurlijk extra wrang. Als je wint 1-3 dan is het makkelijk praten, maar PSV was gewoon sneller op elke tweede bal.
bruh, Tolu moet blijven staan? Dat is net zo'n insteek zonder context. Leonardo kwam invallen, dan is het lastig om in 10-20 minuten alles om te zetten. Wel fair dat Andy zegt "even snel" kopen, dat klinkt als een managementfout.
"paniekaankoop" is misschien overdreven, maar 20 miljoen voor een spits die niet overtuigt, voelt gewoon als pech+keiharde druk van supporters 😅
"Paniekaankoop" is wel cap. Maar ik vond het ook opvallend hoe Ajax nauwelijks gevaar bracht met Leonardo, vooral na rust. Als je zo'n speler koopt verwacht je meteen impact, anders krijg je dit soort reacties.
Ik snap de boosheid over Van Bommel ook, maar dit stuk gaat wel heel hard op Leonardo. 20 miljoen of niet, soms heb je gewoon tijd nodig. Toch vond ik het wel scherp van Genee dat hij zegt dat "alles wegviel" toen hij inviel 👀
Voor twintig miljoen moet je meer laten zien dan alleen meelopen. Zodra Leonardo erin kwam viel het momentum weg, dat zegt imo genoeg over impact.
Dat "Hij kan helemaal niks" vind ik wel echt hard, maar tbh je ziet het systeem niet werken als hij geen dreiging biedt. Als Tolu dan ook beter staat, dan is dit qua timing gewoon pijnlijk.
Tbh die quote "Hij kan helemaal niks" is zo makkelijk praten. Leonardo had duidelijk moeite, maar meteen paniek-aankoop roepen is echt overdreven. Na zo'n wedstrijd draait iedereen vooral om één moment.
Ik snap de frustratie van Genee, maar na 1 invalbeurt kun je hem toch niet meteen afschrijven. Wel duidelijk dat hij geen bal gewend was en PSV meteen druk zette 🔥
