Ajax fans are disappointed with FC Groningen after the match against PSV and lash out hard at the “number one Ajax enemy”
1 min readThe 2-2 draw, or more precisely the late 2-2 draw between FC Groningen and Ajax from May 2025, is recorded in capital letters in the history books of the Amsterdam club. In the absolute final minutes of that match, FC Groningen struck for the equalizer, after which a lot happened in both Groningen, Amsterdam and also in Eindhoven.
These remain well-known and historic images, which understandably still cause frustrations in Amsterdam. It still bothers many Ajax fans that on that evening the title was lost to PSV. And this is reflected, among other things, during matches in which FC Groningen is involved.
The name Thijmen Blokzijl still causes bewilderment and frustrations on the Amsterdam side. So it was last Sunday afternoon during PSV - FC Groningen. Meanwhile, Blokzijl seems to have become 'Ajax enemy number one', after Bryan Smeets of De Graafschap had previously been known for years among Ajax fans by number of appearances.
FC Groningen still took the lead in Eindhoven, but soon conceded the 1-1. Thijmen Blokzijl turned a hard cross from Ruben van Bommel into his own net. At that moment, Ajax fans started stirring up again on social media. In the second half, the captain of FC Groningen again failed to be blameless when conceding a goal. Where, more than a year ago, he shot Ajax from the top spot in matchday 33, he is now helping PSV again… at least, viewed from the Ajax supporters’ perspective.

The number of Ajax fans also appears to be completely done with the central defender. "What a defender he is, though. He always gets in our way", begins an Ajax fan on X. "Just start an investigation into him", a fan of Ajax thinks, with frustrations evidently running high.
“Pfffff, again that Blokzijl. Again against PSV. Against Ajax again playing the match of your life, of course, what is he doing there, man. First already almost not leaving his foot in the way and then cover over everything here and leave two men behind…”, you can also read on X. “Blokzijl who also just puts the ball into his own goal. He really means it, hey?”, another Ajax fan points to the defender of FC Groningen.
Many PSV fans react to the reports coming from the Ajax fans. “Blokzijl is on his way to becoming a PSV legend without ever having worn the shirt,” it sounds from the PSV side. “Blokzijl really wants a statue on the Frederiklaan,” another adds. Another sees an open application in his own goal. “Blokzijl really wants to go to PSV or what?”, it’s said with a wink. "That Blokzijl helps us quite often, doesn’t he?!", but also 'Well done Blokzijl, very decent', another posts.

"Wat een verdediger is dat toch. Die zit ons altijd dwars" is wild, and ngl i hate admitting it. But if you let Ruben van Bommel hit that hard ball across the box, you are asking for trouble every time. 💀
blijkbaar is hij bij Ajax "Ajax-vijand nummer één", maar ik zie vooral een verdediger die opnieuw net niet op z'n beste seconde staat. Wél heerlijk dat PSV profiteert, die 1-1 tegen en dan zelf tempo houden, dat is het verschil. 💯🔥
The late 2-2 in May 2025 is still living rent-free in Amsterdam, clearly. But in this match, the 1-1 was right away and after that PSV just kept pressing. Props to van Bommel for forcing that dangerous cross.
"Pfffff, weer die Blokzijl. Weer tegen PSV." ja joh, het is toch vooral die sfeer rondom de late 2-2. Toch vond ik het wel tekenend dat FC Groningen voor de 2-2 al probeerde te voetballen en daarna meteen in paniek/tempo-timing schoot.

tbh ik snap die ajax-broncombinatie niet, maar die Blokzijl-hype is echt een beetje te ver gegaan lol. hij maakt fouten en Ajax grijpt elke keer dat moment aan, maar tegen PSV winnen doe je toch op je eigen moment.
I get the frustration if you are Ajax, but some of those posts sound like conspiracy mode. Two defenders get drawn in, and then you cover poorly on the second half. That is tactics, not a cursed player.
tbh that "eigen doel" from the hard cross was peak timing for PSV. Blokzijl seems to have a habit of making it about himself, but we should also credit Ruben van Bommel's delivery. 🔥
Ajax fans are so salty about that 2-2, but still it is funny how Blokzijl is always "our problem". In Eindhoven he just caused chaos, but PSV stayed composed after the 0-1.
