A concentration problem, perhaps an estimation problem? It’s time for a change of guard.
1 min readThe number of scored goals is increasing again at a rapid pace. However, the number of goals conceded is also rising. That is a result of the style of play, Bosz preaches just as often as he’s asked about it, but the PSV coach will meanwhile surely be sick to death of the tinkering between the posts.
But it’s tinkering, nothing more and nothing less. Matej Kovar just does what he can and strings together mistakes and blunders. Kovar is definitely no hero when it comes to coming off his line. He just doesn’t know how to do it anymore. On the line it’s still all right, although that also often doesn’t last.
Week after week the goalkeeper makes a mistake, which luckily is rarely decisive because of the many goals scored. Yes, Kovar also saves PSV sometimes. That is precisely his job, but anyone who analyzes all the mistakes and the weak to sometimes bizarre moments comes to the conclusion that a change of goalkeeper would be more than justified.
Noah Fernandez can make but few mistakes before he is benched. Goalkeeper Kovar meanwhile irritates almost the entire crowd with the occasional bizarre piece of goalkeeping and bizarre performances under the bar.
It finally became the evening of Sven Mijnans, who according to the week in Enschede might sometimes start in the striker position behind Guus Til or the other way around; Guus Til behind Sven Mijnans.

Kodai Sano fired PSV into the lead with his first goal for PSV after Mijnan managed to score the equalizer. Sparta goalkeeper Michael Brouwer, who had earlier brilliantly dived to keep out Bouhamdi’s shot from the crossbar, was now badly off.
After the break Sparta certainly did not throw in the towel. Kovár even saved, fairly alertly, on a chance by Zonneveld; Mitchell van Bergen fired just wide, after which substitute Perisic had to serve up another save for his goalkeeper on the line after headers by, respectively, Zonneveld and Bruno Martins Indi. Once again, Kovar stood there, apathetic, looking around; what a shocking, weak goalkeeper PSV has between the posts.
Mijnans brought relief for PSV in the 74th minute with his third goal, which still came as something of a positive for the day in terms of aggression and dueling ability plus willpower. Brouwer still made a save from Paul Wanner’s shot, but was helpless on the rebound from Mijnans, who has meanwhile already got four goals to his name.
The first goalkeeper on duty at least once again managed to squander a great deal of goodwill Sunday evening with his dreadful blunder around the 0-1. Knowing Peter Bosz, he won’t intervene under the bar, but of course Kovar’s most recent blunder will not be his last. Is it a concentration problem, perhaps a misjudgment problem, or is it a lack of technique combined with a lack of decisiveness?
The scramble for Kovar's goal with a score of 4-1 also turned out to be a miserable moment. Why? Because the Czech again had no idea what to do, where he was, and exactly what he was supposed to do. As already said, Ivan Perisic saved him, but his apathetic habit of looking around rather than acting revealed once again his lack of class and quality. It's time for a change of guard under the goal...

Wie kijkt mee? 👀 Warming up is fun, but I want to see a more direct tempo after winning it, not letting the opponent reset every time. Make it hurt, PSV. 🔥
tbh i am not convinced by the substitutions strategy. Bringing on fresh legs is good, but if the shape stays the same, we just watch the tempo die out lol 👀
If X player is the one being praised for pressing triggers, fine... but i still want better cover behind him. One wrong step and we get punished instantly 💀
"Inside PSV" is nice and all but where is the courage up front? If the striker keeps dropping too deep, the wide guys never get their second-ball opportunities 😂.
i think the midfield balance is the big issue. When Veerman drops too deep, our buildup slows and the press gets easier for the opponent 😅
Tbh that midfield setup feels a bit too flat. Sangare was getting dragged out, and then Tillman had no clean passes to run onto 😅. Need one more vertical option next match.
If PSV are pressing like this again, Gakpo has to get on the half-turn more. He is the only one who can break the line quickly, otherwise it turns into side-to-side football.
Really hoping PSV go for more control in those wide areas. If the article is right about how we struggled to pin teams back, that has to change in the next match 🔥⚽
